The Japanese company Canon has been designing, manufacturing and selling cameras for many decades. They use such devices even now, when, it would seem, smartphones began to produce an excellent picture. Moreover, not only professionals who strive to get perfect shots, but also ordinary consumers make their choice in favor of Canon cameras. That is why we decided to talk about the best cameras from one of the most famous Japanese manufacturers. We will talk about both compacts and models with interchangeable optics.

How to choose a Canon camera

The Japanese company Canon has been around since 1937. Its history began with the laboratory of precision optical instruments. Quite quickly, the company managed to repeat the success of German camera manufacturers, which were considered the best at that time. In the future, the Japanese even surpassed their competitors. Now it is Canon that is one of the largest manufacturers of such equipment. But this does not mean that the assortment of this company does not contain frankly average products that upset their customers. If you want to get an exceptionally positive impression from the camera, then you need to approach its choice wisely.

First of all, you need to decide on the purpose of the device. Are you going to make money from them? Look towards professional or at least advanced models belonging to mirror
or mirrorless type. If you will be photographing only for the family archive, you can think about compact
camera that does not support lens change. Or about an entry-level device with interchangeable optics, which has a relatively small matrix.

Perhaps it is on sensor you need to pay attention immediately after you have decided on the purpose of the camera. And it’s not just about its resolution! physical plays a dominant role matrix dimensionsmeasured in inches or fractions of it. The most commonly used sensor sizes by Canon are:

  1. 1/2.3″ is a standard primarily used in compact cameras. Taking a device with an even smaller matrix is not recommended.
  2. 1/1.7″ – slightly larger size; such a sensor can be present in both compact and mirrorless cameras.
  3. 1 inch – the best option for a mirrorless camera that is bought for home use.
  4. Micro 4/3 – the size of such a sensor is 17.3×13 mm. Canon does not practically use such matrices.
  5. APS-C – The size of this sensor is 23.5×15.6 mm or so. This is about 1.5 times the size of a 35mm film frame. The best option for a beginner photographer.
  6. Full Frame (“full frame”) – such a matrix is completely identical in size to the frame of a 35-mm film. A camera equipped with it will be very expensive, but the result of its work will suit even a professional.

There are also devices with even larger sensors (the so-called “medium format”), but they are huge, and therefore not very convenient to use. And there is nothing to say about their cost.

There are many other things to think about when choosing a Canon camera. For example, a model with interchangeable lenses will most likely be sold with one or another kit lens. A professional does not care – he has his own set of optics. An amateur should definitely pay attention to this – you need to clarify what range of focal lengths will be offered, and to what extent the aperture can be opened.

A modern Canon camera is made up of many elements that make shooting easy. You may find it useful viewfinder
(not necessarily optical), which will save on a clear summer day. Concerning LCD display, then ideally it should be equipped with a rotary mechanism. It is also worth clarifying which number of pixels this screen consists, because I would like to see a detailed picture. And the camera can be equipped additional display, which displays the current shooting settings. In some devices, it is also possible to transfer an image to a smartphone – the built-in module is responsible for this function WiFi. Also, through this technology, the finished material is sent, which allows you to forget about the ever-lost USB cable.

An important factor when choosing a Canon camera is the variety of connectors. For example, not all models have microphone input. And it can come in handy when shooting video, when the sound is written on the “button” or “gun”. To evaluate the quality of the recorded sound on the fly, we use headphone output.

And let’s briefly go over the other important characteristics:

  1. Weight and dimensions – if you are not going to make money from photography, then it is better to look for a relatively small camera.
  2. Maximum ISO – various reviews specify at what photosensitivity the level of digital noise will remain acceptable.
  3. Governing bodies – again, reviews and reviews will come to the rescue. Their authors will say whether the buttons are convenient, whether the camera has enough rotary switches and wheels.
  4. Built-in flash – you need to think about its presence and power if you are not going to use an external one.
  5. Battery Life – not everyone will want to buy several additional batteries (but we still recommend getting at least one).
  6. Movie mode – Evaluate the resolution at which the camera will shoot, and with what frequency it will do it.
  7. Number of memory card slots – professionals prefer to save material to two removable drives at once, so that its loss is impossible.
  8. Matrix resolution – the best option now is 24 megapixels (36 megapixels for cameras with a full-frame sensor). Keep in mind that the higher the value, the more digital noise there will be in high ISO shots. Therefore, we do not recommend chasing record numbers.
  9. Different photo modes – A modern camera must be able to shoot HDR, while offering a lot of settings. It is also desirable to be able to shoot panoramas, time-lapses and other things in the same vein.
  10. Optical stabilization – usually it is endowed with compact cameras. In the case of a camera with interchangeable lenses, the problem of its absence can be solved by purchasing a lens with a built-in image stabilizer.
  11. Moisture protection – needed if you are going to actively engage in photography in all weather conditions.

Of course, you can not bother yourself with the above characteristics. Instead, you can focus on our ranking of the best Canon cameras. When writing it, we focused on the opinions of specialized publications, including foreign ones. We also took into account the reviews of real customers, just as all kinds of reviews of photographic equipment did not go without our attention. The resulting selection should greatly simplify your choice!

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III

Rating: 4.8

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III

A real hit. This camera is in demand even among professionals. They prefer to wield it on vacation with it, and not with some heavy SLR. The weight of this model is only 399 g, and it is not necessary to add a lens to it, since it is already built into the camera. Optics, by the way, provides a three-fold zoom. Not much, but with the matrix used here it is difficult to achieve more. The aperture at the minimum focal length opens up to f / 2.8. Not a bad result, allowing relatively effectively blur the background.

The above sensor belongs to the APS-C format. It is only 1.6 times smaller than a traditional film frame. At 24-megapixel resolution, this allows you to count on excellent image detail. Photos here can be saved in RAW format. The process is fast, resulting in up to nine shots every second. I am glad that the optical stabilizer works while using the camera. However, it is much more useful when shooting video.

If we talk about video recording, then here it is carried out in Full HD resolution at 60 frames / s. Alas, 4K video shooting lacks the power of the processor installed here. This shortcoming was noted by the authors Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III review on the DPReview website. It is felt that the creators have focused their attention on static images – there are no special complaints about them.

It uses a hinged LCD and electronic viewfinder for framing. The resolution of both is very high. Also, the owner of the camera can use the remote control by connecting the remote control or smartphone. For these purposes, the corresponding connector is not forgotten here, and wireless modules are present.

It should be recognized that powerful components have a negative impact on battery life. A full charge is enough for only 200 shots or a little more. This is the case when at least one battery should be purchased in addition to the camera.

Advantages

  • Many shooting modes;

  • Built-in optical stabilizer;

  • Excellent photo detail;

  • Well-implemented continuous shooting;

  • Low level of digital noise;

  • Fast autofocus;

  • The LCD display is complemented by a hinge mechanism;

  • There is an electronic viewfinder;

  • There are modules Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC.

Flaws

  • Maximum video is written in Full HD resolution;

  • High price;

  • Only 3x optical zoom is available;

  • Not very long battery life.

Canon PowerShot G1 W Mark II

Rating: 4.7

Canon PowerShot G1 W Mark II

Inside this baby is a matrix measuring 18.7 x 14 mm (crop factor 1.85). The resolution of the sensor is 12.8 megapixels, which cannot be called a particularly high result. However, this is quite enough to get sufficiently detailed images suitable for printing in any format.

Unlike even more advanced compacts, this camera provides at least five times optical zoom. This allows you to shoot not only portraits and, for example, landscapes, but also some individual objects that are not too close. The camera also boasts an aperture of f / 2 – it is up to this value that it opens at the minimum focal length. Needless to say, with such a wide aperture, the background blurs very well?

The camera also got into our rating due to the presence of an optical stabilizer. We also liked the set of interfaces – on the case you can find both USB and HDMI, and even a connector for the remote control. The latter, however, is not useful, because the camera can also be controlled via Wi-Fi. In a word, we can talk about this device for a very long time. However, not everyone will decide to buy it – many will be scared away by the price, reaching 42-43 thousand rubles.

Advantages

  • Miniature sizes;
  • There is an optical zoom;
  • Decent rate of fire (5.2 fps);
  • There is an optical stabilizer;
  • An electronic viewfinder can be installed;
  • A large number of connectors;
  • Good swivel LCD display;
  • High quality pictures.

Flaws

  • Video is recorded at 30 fps;
  • The cost cannot be called any low;
  • Weight reaches 558 g;
  • Not very high resolution.

Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II

Rating: 4.6

Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II

One of the most popular compact cameras at the moment. The success is explained by the price tag, not exceeding 27 thousand rubles. Many flagship smartphones are now much more expensive. The Japanese managed to achieve a reasonable cost through the use of a miniature matrix – it belongs to the crop factor of 2.7. At the same time, the manufacturer decided to increase the resolution to 20.1 megapixels. Of course, because of this, the ability to shoot at high ISO values is lost, but the photos are very detailed.

The camera has an optical image stabilizer and a powerful processor. The latter provides continuous shooting at a speed of 8.2 frames / s. As expected, photos can be saved in RAW format, so that absolutely every aspect of them can be edited. The device included in our rating also includes Wi-Fi, NFC and even Bluetooth wireless modules.

Does this camera have any other simplifications compared to a more advanced version? Unfortunately, there is. In particular, the screen of the device is not equipped with a swivel mechanism. Also, nothing will surprise the lens. Its aperture is also capable of opening up to f / 2, but the optical zoom is used only three times. Surprisingly, with all this, the camera has learned to shoot video in Full HD resolution at 60 frames / s. It is because of this that this camera is popular among some video bloggers.

Advantages

  • High-quality video shooting is possible;
  • A large number of wireless modules;
  • Weight does not exceed 206 g;
  • High burst shooting speed;
  • There is an optical image stabilizer;
  • High resolution inch matrix.

Flaws

  • Only 3x optical zoom is available;
  • The physical dimensions of the matrix leave much to be desired;
  • The LCD screen does not have a swivel mechanism;
  • Low battery capacity.

Canon EOS 90D Body

Rating: 4.9

Canon EOS 90D Body

This is a relatively small camera, weighing no more than 701g (including battery). Therefore, it can appeal to almost any novice photographer who is not yet ready to carry any heavy equipment with him. At the same time, the price tag of this model cannot be called low, and therefore you can count on a wide arsenal of features.

The first step is to note the matrix installed here. Yes, it is 1.62 times smaller than a film frame, but the manufacturer did a great job on it. The sensor boasts a 32-megapixel resolution. Such a figure allows us to hope for excellent detailing of the pictures. But for this you need to get a great lens. That is why we recommend purchasing a “carcass”, complete optics could not provide you with the required resolution.

This camera is relatively good at shooting in the dark. But don’t expect a perfect result – with such a pixel density, it was impossible to realize especially high ISO values, measured in hundreds of thousands. As for continuous shooting, in this regard, the camera surpasses almost all of its competitors – it creates up to ten photos per second. Framing here is carried out using an optical viewfinder with a 100 percent field of view. You can also use the rotary display, which is touch. There is also a second screen that displays the basic settings.

Since this camera is sharpened for beginners, it is endowed with all the most necessary connectors – a microphone input, a headphone output, a remote control jack and HDMI. The device also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules.

The authors Canon EOS 90D Review DigitalCameraWorld.com commends this model for long battery life. A full charge should last at least 1200 shots, and more often even more. They also noted the possibility of video shooting in 4K resolution.

Advantages

  • Not very large size and weight;

  • There is an optical viewfinder;

  • The touch display is supplemented with a rotary mechanism;

  • There is a second screen;

  • 4K video recording available;

  • High burst shooting speed;

  • A large number of connectors;

  • Wireless modules are not forgotten;

  • High resolution matrix;

  • You can shoot with a shutter speed of 1/16000 s;

  • There is protection against moisture and dust.

Flaws

  • Not very large buffer capacity;

  • High price.

Canon EOS 850D

Rating: 4.8

Canon EOS 850D

This is one of the lightest DSLRs among those equipped with a fairly wide functionality. The scale below it shows 515g, and that’s with the battery already installed (but without the lens count). By the way, we recommend taking the Body version, since “whale” optics are unlikely to suit you. For it in Russian stores they ask for 60-70 thousand rubles. For this money, you will get a tool that is somewhat professional.

It uses an APS-C format CMOS sensor. Its 24-megapixel resolution can not be called high. However, this has a plus: in most cases, the pictures do not have much digital noise. Also, the processor does not have to work too hard to process images, resulting in 7.5 frames per second in burst mode.

This camera is capable of 4K video shooting, albeit with a frequency of no more than 30 frames / s. Again, this should not be done with a “whale” lens, as it offers a very limited field of view with a cropped matrix, especially if you also use an electronic image stabilizer. By the way, it is the sensor that is listed among the shortcomings by the authors. Canon EOS 850D Reviewpublished on the website of Digital Camera magazine. But you need to understand that full-frame DSLRs are even more expensive.

If we talk about the positive aspects, then here stands out the optimal set of controls. Due to them, the camera will appeal to any beginner. There is also a touch screen. Where without it in modern technology? It can be tilted, which greatly simplifies shooting from non-standard angles. But more often than not, the photographer will use an optical viewfinder, which has a 95 percent field of view here. It’s a pity that even when using it, you can’t expect very long battery life – some competitors still outperform this model.

Finally, we note that there is no headphone output – among the connectors, only the microphone input and HDMI can be distinguished. As for the wireless modules, everything is in order with them: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are waiting for the buyer, thanks to which remote control is implemented via a smartphone or tablet.

Advantages

  • Good autofocus system;

  • Very high resolution matrix;

  • There is an electronic image stabilization system;

  • Built-in long-range flash;

  • There is an optical viewfinder;

  • The display is complemented by an inclined mechanism;

  • Not forgotten Wi-Fi and Bluetooth;

  • There is a microphone input;

  • 4K video recording available;

  • The camera is small and very light.

Flaws

  • No second screen;

  • Not very long working time;

  • Not the best autofocus performance when shooting 4K video;

  • There is no headphone output.

Canon EOS 2000D

Rating: 4.8

CANON EOS 2000D

Equipped with a 24-megapixel CMOS sensor, the camera should suit any person who is going to shoot exclusively for family archives and publishing their work on social networks. A kit with a whale lens is priced at only 30 thousand rubles, so it should not become a particularly serious burden on the budget.

This SLR has at its disposal a built-in flash, the range of which reaches nine meters. On the back of the device is a three-inch LCD display, almost nothing surprising. It is recommended to use it for framing only as a last resort – you should not expect much help from it. Most often, a reflex viewfinder with a 95 percent field of view shows itself much better.

This camera can not be called high-speed. In burst mode, it takes no more than three shots every second. At the same time, the buffer is ready to overflow after just over three seconds. At least if you save the result in RAW format. Not able to boast of speed and shutter – as much as possible, it provides the photographer with a shutter speed of 1/4000 s. But you will only notice this after buying some expensive portrait lens.

Despite the low cost, the camera received built-in Wi-Fi and NFC modules. They will allow you to transfer the finished material to your smartphone, as well as use it for remote control. As for the connectors, in this regard, the situation is noticeably worse – neither a microphone nor headphones can be connected to the camera. It is generally not the best suited for video shooting, since the Canon EOS 2000D only does it in Full HD resolution at 30 frames / s.

But let’s not scare you. Many of the shortcomings of the 475-gram camera that we have described are annoying only when trying to use it for professional purposes. In other cases, people leave about the same reviews as Daria wrote a few months after the purchase: “I took it for myself. Photograph family, nature and more. For a beginner, its functions abound”.

Advantages

  • There are Wi-Fi and NFC modules;

  • Good matrix resolution;

  • Low cost;

  • There is an optical viewfinder;

  • Decent battery life;

  • Not the biggest size and weight.

Flaws

  • Not the best continuous shooting mode;

  • There is no possibility to shoot video in 4K resolution;

  • The display does not have a swivel mechanism;

  • Few connectors;

  • No synchronizer support.

Canon EOS 70D

Rating: 4.7

Canon EOS 70D

One of the most advanced DSLRs among those designed for amateurs. This device has everything you need for easy and high-quality shooting. For example, the camera includes a CMOS-matrix with a resolution of 20.2 megapixels and a crop factor of 1.6. The device also has a swivel LCD display, consisting of a million pixels, located on a three-inch platform. Importantly, this screen rotates sideways – this allows you to see it when shooting yourself from a tripod. However, such tricks may not be needed, because you can control the camera from your smartphone using a Wi-Fi connection. Another undoubted advantage of the Canon EOS 70D is the rate of fire – the camera can shoot up to 7 frames / s. In this case, the series can last 65 frames if the save is in JPEG format. If the choice is made in favor of RAW, then the series will be limited to 16 shots.

Of course, the camera also has disadvantages typical for an amateur DSLR. Fortunately, they can be counted on the fingers of one hand, otherwise this model would not be in our rating. In particular, we can note a small number of focus points, even if they are all cross. The reflex viewfinder has a 98% field of view – this also takes some getting used to. Able to raise questions and the price tag – for a camera without a lens they ask about 48 thousand rubles.

Advantages

  • From one charge, you can create up to 920 photos;
  • Not the biggest weight for a DSLR (755 g);
  • Reliable metal case;
  • Decent number of connectors;
  • WiFi supported;
  • Available shutter speed 1/8000 s;
  • High rate of fire;
  • Decent matrix resolution.

Flaws

  • Video recording at 60 fps only at 720p resolution;
  • Not very many focus points;
  • Not all fans will like the cost;
  • Shooting at high ISOs is nearly impossible.

Canon EOS 750D

Rating: 4.6

CANON EOS 750D

At the time of this writing, this is one of the few amateur Canon DSLRs with a matrix, the effective resolution of which reaches 24.2 megapixels. At the same time, the processor quite adequately copes with the processing of such a detailed picture. Proof of this is the burst mode, which creates 5 frames / s. When saving images in JPEG format, the series can last virtually forever – up to 940 photos. But in RAW, there are problems – when using this format, after 8 frames, the camera will need a break.

The device is equipped with a simple reflex viewfinder, the field of view of which does not exceed 95%. You can also use the 3-inch swivel LCD for framing. The focusing system here consists of 19 points, all of which are cross-points. The SLR camera also includes a Wi-Fi module, which allows you to control the device from your smartphone.

Of course, there were some typical simplifications here. First, the camera can only shoot high frame rate video at 720p resolution. Secondly, the product comes with a modest battery, a full charge of which is enough for about 440 photos. Thirdly, the shutter of the camera does not shine with speed – the maximum shutter speed available to the user is 1/4000 s. Nevertheless, the device has earned its place in the ranking, because its cost, complete with a whale lens, does not exceed 43 thousand rubles.

Advantages

  • High resolution matrix;
  • Relatively good rate of fire;
  • Solid LCD display with a rotary mechanism;
  • There is Wi-Fi;
  • Optimal cost;
  • Weight with battery does not exceed 555 g.

Flaws

  • Viewfinder field of view is 95%;
  • The second screen is missing;
  • Not the largest number of focus points;
  • Serious restrictions in terms of video shooting;
  • The battery life could have been longer.

Canon PowerShot SX540HS

Rating: 4.9

Canon PowerShot SX540HS

One of the few cameras that provides the user with a 50x optical zoom. Not even every binoculars can boast of such a parameter! Of course, photographing something at maximum magnification is impossible without an optical stabilizer. Fortunately, here it is – it is a moving element in the lens.

To achieve such a gigantic zoom, the manufacturer had to use a matrix that is standard for budget compacts, belonging to the crop factor of 5.62. It is made using BSI CMOS technology, and its resolution reaches 20.3 megapixels. Shooting at high ISOs is not recommended unless you want to capture a frame with a lot of digital noise.

Otherwise, this is a typical compact camera. The aperture here at the minimum focal length opens only up to f / 3.4. On the back of the device is a simple LCD display, consisting of 461,000 pixels. Autofocus is made according to the contrast type, it consists of only nine points. I am glad that the manufacturer has not forgotten about Wi-Fi and NFC at least.

Advantages

  • There is an optical stabilizer;
  • There is a 50x zoom;
  • The composition contains aspherical and low dispersion lenses;
  • The rate of fire reaches 5.9 frames / s;
  • Manual aperture and shutter speed settings are available;
  • There is NFC and Wi-Fi;
  • Shooting Full HD video at 60 fps.

Flaws

  • Short battery life;
  • Not the most advanced autofocus;
  • Modest LCD display;
  • High ISO values are non-working;
  • The cost reaches 20 thousand rubles.

Canon PowerShot SX60HS

Rating: 4.8

Canon PowerShot SX60HS

A compact camera that got into our rating due to the fact that it breaks all records in the range of focal lengths. The device provides 65x optical zoom! This option is useful when shooting flying aircraft, wild animals in the distance, and more. Of course, at such moments, an optical stabilizer will be used with might and main, without which, with adequate shutter speed, the picture would be blurry.

Such a massive lens could not but affect the weight of a compact camera. Together with the battery, the device weighs 650 g, and therefore it is unlikely to be used on an ongoing basis. I am glad that the manufacturer did not save on the battery – its capacity is enough to create about 340 photos. Also here is a solid three-inch display, consisting of 922 thousand pixels and complemented by a swivel mechanism. In sunny weather, you can crop using an electronic viewfinder, which has recently been found very rarely in compacts.

Of course, the camera is not ideal. With a price tag reaching 28 thousand rubles, the device offers a standard BSI CMOS matrix, the size of which is 1/2.3 inches. Also, questions are raised by the video mode, in which, when Full HD resolution is selected, the frequency is reduced to 30 frames / s. Surprisingly, the device received a microphone input.

Advantages

  • There is a Wi-Fi module;
  • Almost maximum optical zoom;
  • There is a microphone input on the case;
  • Good swivel LCD display;
  • Built-in electronic viewfinder;
  • The optical stabilizer is actively exploited;
  • Decent battery life;
  • In burst mode, 6.4 fps are created.

Flaws

  • Very high cost;
  • Great weight;
  • More often than not, images receive a high level of digital noise;
  • Very slow shooting in RAW.

Canon PowerShot SX420IS

Rating: 4.7

Canon PowerShot SX420IS

Many ultrazooms have only a traditional black body. But the above model is an exception to the rule – in stores you can find not only black, but also a red version. Unfortunately, this is the only distinguishing feature of the camera. Otherwise, this is a typical compact, equipped with not the most aperture “glass” and a very modest processor. You should not hope for continuous shooting – about two seconds are spent on processing the frame here. I am glad that at least the manufacturer did not get rid of the optical stabilizer; without it, correct shooting at 42x zoom would be impossible.

Buying this camera is worth it only in case of special savings. Yes, the device can be purchased for only 13 thousand rubles. But for this money you will get an outdated model, the matrix of which is created using CCD technology – you will not get any impressive result from it. Nevertheless, this camera was not in vain in our rating. Despite the outdated characteristics, it allows the use of modern technologies. For example, you can control the device through a smartphone using Wi-Fi and NFC. Also, the buyer will be pleased with the weight, not exceeding 325 g.

Advantages

  • Dimensions and weight cannot be called particularly large;
  • The lens contains low dispersion and aspherical lenses;
  • Decent 42x zoom;
  • There is an optical stabilizer;
  • A version of the camera with a red body is available;
  • There are NFC and Wi-Fi modules;
  • Low cost.

Flaws

  • No manual settings for shutter speed and aperture;
  • A CCD matrix is used;
  • Video shooting – only in HD-resolution at 30 frames / s;
  • Serial mode is practically non-existent;
  • High level of digital noise.

Canon EOS 1D X Mark III

Rating: 4.9

CANON EOS 1D X MARK III

This is a great choice for any successful photographer. Yes, the camera turned out to be huge, and its weight reaches 1250. But which of the professionals cares? They are much more important than the presence of a waterproof housing and a full-frame matrix. The resolution of the latter is 21.4 megapixels. The Japanese manufacturer deliberately did not go too far so that the user would not be able to face the abundance of digital noise. As a result, night shooting is carried out without any problems. You can shoot even at ISO 102400 and higher!

The not very high resolution of the sensor made it possible to realize an excellent rate of fire. The power of the installed processor is enough to create twenty frames every second! Nothing bad can be said about the shutter, which can provide shutter speeds of 1/8000 s. And 191 focus points do not make a mistake in focusing. Framing is done using the 3.2-inch LCD or reflex viewfinder with 100% field of view. But if the price of the error is high, then it is better to transfer the picture to a monitor or TV using the HDMI output.

We will not even list all the connectors available here. The fact is that there is absolutely everything you need here – even RJ-45 and USB 3.1. Wireless modules are also not forgotten, although professionals do not use them as often as amateurs. As for the battery, its capacity of 2700 mAh is enough to create 2800 shots.

ReviewCanon EOS 1D X Mark III from DPReview shows that this model is also useful for creating professional videos. The numbers also hint at this. The device is ready to record video in 4K resolution at 60 fps. Moreover, if you are willing to put up with half the frequency, then the resolution can be increased to 5K! You can only find fault with the speed of autofocus in video mode – in this regard, the camera is inferior to some competitors, especially those belonging to the mirrorless type.

It may seem that this is the perfect camera. But actually it is not. This is the perfect reporting camera. If you work in a studio or shoot nature, then some aspects of this model will still not suit you.

Advantages

  • There is a second screen;
  • Long battery life;
  • Excellent rate of fire;
  • 5K video recording available;
  • Shooting at very high light sensitivity is possible;
  • A huge number of connectors;
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are present;
  • Built-in GPS module;
  • Implemented moisture protection.

Flaws

  • Bayonet will not suit everyone;
  • When shooting video, autofocus is not very fast.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Rating: 4.9

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

This camera was created for those professionals who are not yet ready to carry a real monster with them. It’s very compact, weighing only 800g. But don’t forget to add the weight of the battery and lens. To connect the latter, a Canon EF mount is used.

The image of this camera is captured using a full-frame matrix, the resolution of which has been increased to 30.4 megapixels. I must say that even with this parameter, the sensor turned out to be relatively quiet. But the record ISO values will not be available to the photographer – they should be sought in more expensive models.

This model can not be called the best choice for reportage shooting. The fact is that in serial mode it produces only 7 shots every second. Yes, and 61 focus points is not the best indicator when using the camera on the street. But on the other hand, the camera perfectly shows itself in the studio, when shooting is carried out slowly. It’s also a good option for shooting outdoors, where you’ll appreciate the wide dynamic range.

This camera appeared on store shelves in 2017. But since then, it has practically not become obsolete. This is confirmed by Canon EOS5D Mark IV review from 3Dnews, which describes many of the positive aspects that are missing in some competitors to this day. For example, 4K video is available here, albeit only at 30 fps. The device also received wireless modules – NFC and Wi-Fi. Not forgotten by the manufacturer and the microphone input. The only question is the lack of a headphone output, because of which the operator will not be able to monitor the volume level of the recorded sound.

Among the advantages of this model should be added the presence of moisture protection. However, almost no professional camera can do without it. The creators of such devices forget about the GPS chip. Here, fortunately, there is no such problem – the camera puts geotags without any problems, so that you can easily determine the location of the shooting in the future.

To once again understand how good this device is, let’s take Anton’s review left by him on Yandex.Market a couple of months after purchase as an example: “Autofocus, in comparison with its predecessor camera, has undergone some changes. The area covered by the dots of the frame has been increased. Special thanks to the manufacturer for the new Dual Pixel AF technology coupled with a touch screen. This is what I personally lacked for staged shooting before. The same buyer noted a short battery life – sometimes a fully charged battery is not enough even for 1000 photos.

Advantages

  • Uses a large touch screen;
  • There is an optical viewfinder;
  • There is a second screen;
  • Low level of digital noise;
  • High resolution full frame sensor;
  • Wireless modules are not forgotten;
  • There is a microphone input;
  • 4K video recording available;
  • Implemented protection against moisture and dust;
  • Excellent dynamic range;
  • The camera can not be called large and heavy.

Flaws

  • 4K video recording is done at a low frame rate;
  • Not very high speed in burst mode;
  • The price cannot be called low;
  • Not very long battery life.

Canon EOS 5DS R

Rating: 4.8

CANON EOS 5DS R

Modern technologies make it possible to significantly increase the resolution of the matrix without compromising the “purity” of the image. The Canon EOS 5DS R is proof of this. Inside it is a full-frame sensor, the resolution of which reaches an incredible 50.6 megapixels! That is, the photos have a resolution of 8688 x 5792 pixels – the detail of such images is amazing! In this case, there is no digital noise, unless the sensitivity is increased to sufficiently high values. Of course, the rate of fire here cannot be a record – very high power is required to process an image with such a resolution. As a result, only 5 fps are created in burst mode. This makes a DSLR not the best choice for reportage photography. But with its help, excellent portraits and landscapes are created. The photographer will definitely like the fast and accurate autofocus, as he will not say anything bad about the weight of the device.

If you need a SLR camera for video shooting, then the Canon 5DS R is still not recommended for purchase. Despite the cost, reaching 140 thousand rubles, and the very high resolution of the matrix, the maximum 60 frames / s is achieved only with 720p video mode.

Advantages

  • Weight without lens does not exceed 930 g;
  • Reliable metal case;
  • Extremely high resolution full frame sensor;
  • The level of digital noise cannot be called prohibitive;
  • The viewfinder has a 100 percent field of view;
  • The case has a USB 3.0 connector and a microphone input;
  • Quality autofocus.

Flaws

  • Not record-breaking battery life;
  • Not the fastest shooting;
  • Not the best choice for shooting video.

The best Canon interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras

Canon EOS M5

Rating: 4.9

Canon EOS M5

The Japanese company Canon is not too active in promoting its mirrorless cameras. Nevertheless, in its range you can find a camera called the Canon EOS M5, without which our rating could not do without. This is a very worthy camera, inside of which there is an APS-C matrix – exactly the same is being introduced into amateur DSLRs. Its resolution is 24.2 megapixels, which allows you to get very detailed pictures.

The lack of a mirror helped the manufacturer increase the rate of fire to 7 fps. Cropping is carried out using an LCD display with a rotary mechanism and a touch layer. You can also use the electronic viewfinder, consisting of 2.36 million pixels. Nothing bad can be said about the focusing system – it consists of 49 points, 9 of which are cross points.

Overall, this is Canon’s best mirrorless camera. There are a large number of wireless modules here, video is recorded at a frequency of 60 FPS, and the weight of the camera (excluding the lens and battery) does not exceed 427 g. You can only complain about the operating time – a full charge is enough for about 295 photos.

Advantages

  • The video is written at a high frame rate;
  • There is a microphone input;
  • Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi modules are built into the camera;
  • High resolution matrix;
  • Good speed in burst mode;
  • High resolution LCD and viewfinder;
  • Decent autofocus;
  • Relatively light weight.

Flaws

  • The cost (54 thousand rubles) will not appeal to everyone;
  • Not the widest lens fleet
  • In Auto ISO, values are selected in large increments.

Conclusion

The Japanese company Canon is famous for its high-quality photographic equipment. The Expertology online magazine has tried to introduce you to the best products of this manufacturer. Any of the presented cameras will definitely please you. It remains only to decide on the purpose of the device and the amount that you are willing to spend.
