PocketBook 641 Aqua 2

Rating: 4.9

PocketBook 641 Aqua 2

And again, an e-book from PocketBook appears in our rating. First place goes to the 641 Aqua 2, with great looks and optimum performance. Streamlined shapes combined with the soft azure color of the soft-touch case make a positive impression on everyone who loves such gadgets. The aspect of external beauty masterfully atones for the lack of a touch screen (E-Ink HD Carta technologies are used here) … however, nothing but authentic control buttons fits here.

If you want to get acquainted with the technical parameters of PocketBook 641 Aqua 2, then there is nothing new about the PocketBook 616 model. Except for the number of supported formats: this model has 14 of them. The gadget will be the best gift for all book lovers, as well as schoolchildren who are not averse to reading at their leisure.

Advantages

  • technical characteristics at the level of PocketBook 616;

  • the best appearance;

  • high level of reliability;

  • 24 months of official warranty (off. version).

Flaws

  • not detected.

ONYX BOOX Eulid

Rating: 4.8

ONYX BOOX Eulid

Second place in the ranking goes to the most expensive and most productive e-book in our selection – ONYX BOOX Euclid. The model is equipped with a 9.7-inch E-Ink Carta touch screen with a resolution of 1200×825 pixels. There is an adaptive backlight and a lot of customizable settings under the control of the Android system.

As a result of the study of the ONYX BOOX lineup, Euclid received a powerful processor with a frequency of 1600 MHz and 1 GB of RAM, which can easily handle 16 GB of internal memory. Naturally, memory cards with such parameters are not supported.

A small drawback of the e-book, according to users, is not the most capacious battery: 3000 mAh are good for ONYX BOOX Darwin 3, but they look “pale” here and require charging at least once every 4 days (provided Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are used). The gadget, of course, is good both for use in everyday life and for the needs of the school … but is it worth spending so much money to buy it?

Advantages

  • excellent technical performance;

  • high-quality study of the body and screen;

  • speed;

  • WiFi and Bluetooth.

Flaws

  • high price;

  • insufficient battery capacity.

ONYX BOOX Darwin 3

Rating: 4.7

ONYX BOOX DARWIN 3

Opens the top three e-book ONYX BOOX Darwin 3 – one of the most reliable “readers” in this market segment. According to the classics, its capacitive touch screen is made using E-Ink and Carta technologies, with a resolution of 1024×758 pixels. The Android operating system is installed, which makes it possible to realize the possibility of a Wi-Fi connection.

The frequency of the processor installed in the ONYX BOOX Darwin 3 is 1000 MHz. Together with 512 MB of RAM, it provides good performance of the device with a full amount of internal memory (8 GB) and reading information from Micro SD media. But the most important and main advantage of this e-book is the capacity of the built-in battery – as much as 3000 mAh, which is easily enough for several weeks of uninterrupted work. This is a great device for everyday use, which will be very useful in the learning process.

Advantages

  • large battery capacity;

  • high quality of workmanship: simplicity and convenience;

  • an abundance of supported text formats;

  • the presence of a Wi-Fi module;

  • case included (off. version);

  • OS Android.

Flaws

  • small complaints about the work of the backlight.

Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch

Rating: 4.6

Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch

The e-book Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch, a compact and concise device with a touch screen running the Android operating system, is one step away from the top three of the rating. A high level of quality allowed the model to rise to a worthy step in the hierarchy of the segment, but the technical characteristics became the anchor that did not allow it to rise even higher.

The display incorporates E-Ink and Pearl technologies, providing eye comfort throughout the entire reading session. With it, even more than modest 800×600 pixels of resolution look very worthy. Unfortunately, many Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch also lack the number of supported formats: only PDF and Epub are available. The amount of internal memory is only 2 GB, since the gadget has a slot for Micro SD.

But the great looks, ease of use, and duplication of touch-swiping capabilities with two large keys make it possible to forget about all the punctures and shortcomings of the Nook, making it a desirable device in the hands of users.

Advantages

  • highest quality E-Ink Pearl display;

  • nice appearance and appropriate wide screen frames;

  • streamlined soft-touch body;

  • Android OS;

  • WiFi.

Flaws

  • modest specifications.

Amazon Kindle PaperWhite 2018 8Gb

Rating: 4.5

Amazon Kindle PaperWhite 2018 8Gb

Fifth place in the ranking goes to the Amazon Kindle PaperWhite e-reader, a 2018 model with positive reviews for screen quality and ease of use. The 6-inch display has a resolution of 1440×1080 pixels, built-in backlight and a touch panel, which made it possible to exclude navigation and control buttons from the case.

Largely due to the capacitive screen, Amazon Kindle PaperWhite turned out to be heavier than its competitors: 182 g. against 155 gr. in PocketBook 616. The lack of the possibility of expanding the internal memory due to Micro SD can also be attributed to the minus. But, as we said below, with 8 GB of internal memory, this is not necessary. The touch gadget turned out to be quite in the spirit of the times and can be a great addition to the school inventory of any student.

Advantages

  • touch screen E-Ink Carta with an abundance of internal settings and high resolution;

  • waterproof housing;

  • WiFi and Bluetooth.

Flaws

  • appearance – too thick and easily soiled display frames;

  • lack of support for current text file formats.

PocketBook 616

Rating: 4.4

POCKETBOOK 616

The line above is the PocketBook 616 e-book – a recent hit among Russian buyers. The 6-inch display of this “reader” has a resolution of 1024×758 pixels, has a backlight and the ability to flexibly adjust the display of books. The design is concise, in the spirit of all PocketBook serial gadgets, but slightly faded in appearance.

The processor frequency of this e-book is 1000 MHz, and it is enough for stable operation of the gadget when the flash card is full. However, for comfortable use of the model, the amount of its own memory, equal to 8 GB, is enough. At average brightness settings, a 1300 mAh battery is enough to read 8,000 standard pages. PocketBook 616 turned out to be a very good e-book, which can become a worthy help to a student in the educational process.

Advantages

  • excellent service center of the company in Russia;

  • convenience and ease of use;

  • high-quality E-Ink Carta display, comfortable for the eyes;

  • the minimum number of failures in work (expert statistics).

Flaws

  • small, in comparison with Digma r63S, the number of readable formats.

Digma r63S

Rating: 4.3

Digma r63S

Moderately high-quality and inexpensive e-book with support for 13 text formats. It has a 6-inch screen, organically surrounded on three sides by control buttons. The buttons are ergonomic and fit well into the overall design of the model – unlike many other representatives of the company.

The processor in the Digma r63S model is Rockchip RK2818 with a frequency of 600 MHz, which is quite fast at nominal load and a small amount of occupied memory. Own storage “reader” is limited to 4 GB, which can be easily expanded using Micro SDHC 32 GB. Lithium-polonium (Li-Pol) battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh acts as an energy cell here.

A small disadvantage of Digma r63S is its low resolution – 800×600 pixels. But for its price, and taking into account the age, the model is guaranteed to be among the best.

Advantages

  • E-Ink Carta display, comfortable for the eyes;

  • the presence of adjustable backlight;

  • a large number of internal settings;

  • lightness (160 gr);

  • can be charged via USB port.

Flaws

  • low screen resolution;

  • You cannot move files from a memory card to internal storage.
