The best inexpensive smartphones under 8000 rubles

Let’s start with the most inexpensive options, and immediately clarify that we will consider smartphones that are close to the established upper price limit of 8,000 rubles and will not take into account very cheap models. Our goal is to find the most affordable solutions for you among more or less reputable brands.

Oppo A1k

Rating: 4.4

Oppo A1k

And the review of the super-budgetary of the Chinese brand OPPO will open. Actually, this manufacturer is already known for inexpensive and very good electronics. At one time, the target audience was impressed by the affordable OPPO A5s model. But the company decided through some simplifications to achieve a minimum cost. And so it turned out OPPO A1k. As for the manufacturer itself, in the Russian Federation, not everyone knows that OPPO is in the world’s TOP-5 in terms of electronics sales, so this is not even close.

The smartphone feels quite good in the hands – it does not slip, since there is no flagship tempered glass here, and the case is simply made of plastic of good quality. The size is rather big – a diagonal of 6.1 inches with a total dimensions of 73.8×154.5×8.4 mm. Weight – 170 g. Colors to choose from – black and red. Finishing the body with a metal coating, moreover, applied with high quality, and it may even seem that there is a metal cover here.

The main qualities that attract buyers of this model are a large screen, a capacious battery, a modest but decent camera for its class and, of course, the price. In 2020, this is perhaps the cheapest OPPO smartphone, but at the same time it is efficient and not bad overall. As for the camera, we’ll still clarify that it may be good for its class, but in the general context, for 2020 the only rear camera, and even 8 megapixels, is already quite modest.

The screen here is with an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1560×720. The dot density is average, but not bad for such a resolution – 282 per inch. Drop-shaped cutout for the camera, but very unobtrusive due to the minimum size. The developers have successfully tried to fit in the cutout not only the camera, but also a microphone and a proximity sensor. The matrix here turned out to be unexpectedly good – if you do not take into account the “budget” resolution, then in terms of brightness it can give odds to many more expensive options.

With performance in OPPO A1k, not everything is clear. The processor itself is quite good for this class of device – a modern 8-core Mediatek Helio P22 (MT6762V). But 2 GB of RAM is a comfortable amount for only very moderate use. On the other hand, super-budget employees rarely please with at least three gigabytes of RAM, but still at least 3 GB would have a significant impact on performance.

The battery here is really impressive – 4000 mAh of capacity for such characteristics is very good. With a moderate, sparing load, the device will work without recharging for several days. Video in YouTube on a full charge and maximum brightness, the smartphone turns about 8 hours. Charging via MicroUSB, and in the context of this review, this is not even a drawback, since all super-budget employees are equipped with just such a connector. The fact is that a more progressive alternative – USB Type-C – is not just a socket, but also an additional corresponding electronic module, and this is an inevitable increase in cost.

Advantages

  • image quality;

  • screen brightness margin;

  • battery 4000 mAh;

  • reliability and reliability;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • cheapest OPPO in 2020.

Flaws

  • the only 8-megapixel main camera.

Vivo Y11 3/32GB

Rating: 4.5

Vivo Y11 3/32GB

Let’s continue the mini-tour of the most inexpensive smartphones of well-known Chinese brands with the interesting Vivo Y11 model. Do not confuse it with the V11, which came out much earlier, and was the first smartphone with a waterdrop notch for the front camera. And let’s jump ahead a little more – this smartphone has an almost twin from the same line – Y12. They are indeed identical in many respects, but the differences add a quarter of the price of the younger model to the older model. Recall that a large electronics holding is behind the Vivo brand and the company of the same name.

The body color of the Y11 in online stores is often marked simply as red and blue to choose from, but in fact everything is more complicated in a good way. The design here is gradient with a smooth transition, on the example of “red”, from cherry to almost black, and its brand name is “red agate”. It looks extraordinarily impressive, and until you pick up a smartphone, it seems that the case is made of tempered glass, like most modern flagships.

The assembly here is strong, reliable, the basis is a solid aluminum frame. This does not give the smartphone significant impact resistance, but in any case, it will not crumble from falling from a small height. Case dimensions – 76.77×159.43×8.92 mm, weight – 190 g.

The screen of the smartphone in diagonal has 6.35 inches. Matrix regular IPS with a resolution of 1544×720. The viewing angles are definitely pleasing – there are no such serious drops in brightness at sharp angles as some representatives of the Redmi line from Xiaomi. The margin of brightness, it would seem, is not too impressive – measurements during independent testing show a value of up to 400 nits. But at angles, too hard dimming does not appear, and the screen begins to “go blind” already in direct sunlight. Well, do not forget about the price of the device – smartphones, the screens of which do not care about direct sunlight, are many times more expensive.

The rear camera is dual – the main module is 13 megapixels with aperture F / 2.20 and a depth sensor 2 megapixels F / 2.40. From the description it is clear that such a compact tandem of cameras can create natural background blur. The front camera in terms of pure parameters is the same as the main one of the previous model – 8 megapixels. Although this kit is significantly better than in OPPO A1k, the standards are still different in 2020, and the reviews show that from a consumer subjective point of view, the camera in this model is perhaps the weakest point.

With performance, the situation here is better than that of the previous model. The RAM in the smartphone is already 3 GB, the processor is comparable in characteristics – the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439. The internal memory is small – 32 GB, but there is a dedicated (not combined with the second SIM card) slot for external memory cards with support for up to 256 GB. Finally, one cannot but rejoice at just a huge battery – as much as 5000 mAh.

Advantages

  • margin of brightness;

  • durable aluminum frame;

  • strong, high-quality assembly;

  • 3 GB of RAM;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • 5000 mAh large capacity battery;

  • effective design and coating, “expensive” appearance.

Flaws

  • complaints about the “retarded” main camera.

Xiaomi Redmi 9A 2/32GB

Rating: 4.6

Xiaomi Redmi 9A 2/32GB

The next smartphone in our review is another record holder of 2020 at an affordable price in its line – Redmi 9A from Xiaomi. The Chinese company and affiliated enterprises have been producing budget versions of more expensive series for several years already – it receives the prefix A to the name. Everything that is possible has been removed here in order to reduce the cost, in some places there are even excesses with asceticism. But in general, the smartphone is trustworthy, and at some points it even pleasantly surprises.

The most noticeable and important detail of any smartphone is the screen, and here it is not bad for a device of this level. Large – 6.53 inches diagonally, with an IPS matrix with a resolution slightly higher on the “long side” than the previous version – 1600×720. The difference is insignificant, and the pixel density is on the verge of a foul – 269 per inch. Most users will not notice anything, but for people with sharp eyesight, the pixels may already be visible. With such a large screen, the dimensions of the smartphone are 77.07×164.9×9 mm, and the weight is 194 g.

The rear main camera here is exactly what the camera is, and not the camera unit – the only module with a sensor resolution of 13 megapixels, with autofocus. That is, the most budget option, which in terms of asceticism surpassed only the above-described OPPO A1k. But the smartphone was not initially designed for consumers who are at least somewhat demanding on the quality of modern smartphone shooting. The front camera is also ordinary, 5 megapixels.

There are almost no questions about performance, and we will now explain this “almost”. The processor here is MediaTek Helio G25 on eight cores – quite a good option. There is not enough RAM – 2 GB, but it is not surprising and not offensive, because almost all super-budget employees have this. The standard minimum of built-in memory is 32 GB, but the memory card slot pleased. It’s dedicated, which is already great, and it also supports huge cards – up to 512 GB.

Now about the performance a little more. By itself, this model is new in mid-2020. She received a fresh Android 10 operating system with the latest MIUI 12 shell, and this is where the weakest link turned out to be. The shell with all its animations, and even imperfectly optimized, turned out to be too heavy for the system. If you use the applications in turn, then there will be no particular discomfort, but when switching between different programs, slowing down the interface will already be very tiring.

The battery of this model is also very capacious – 5000 mAh. Some negative feedback from real users can be traced in relation to the connection / charging connector. Here it is MicroUSB, like the vast majority of super-budget employees. Why manufacturers equip low-cost smartphones with just such a socket, and not USB Type-C, we explained above – it really costs significantly more. Here, Xiaomi did something strange. In the previous generation – in the Redmi 8A smartphone, there was exactly a USB Type-C connector, and the buyers of the “nine” were really disappointed with such a downgrade to MicroUSB. Those who have always used budget models will not experience any disappointment.

Advantages

  • quality assembly;

  • high resolution matrix FullHD 1920×1080;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • support for large memory cards up to 512 GB;

  • 5000mAh large capacity battery.

Flaws

  • lags the MIUI 12 shell when switching between applications.

HONOR 8A

Rating: 4.7

HONOR 8A

The review will be completed by a smartphone of the HONOR brand, which is owned by HUAWEI. This domestic brand of a well-known Taiwanese company has repeatedly pleasantly surprised, and consumers also had certain expectations associated with the budget model of the HONOR 8A smartphone. Let us draw the reader’s attention to the fact that we are reviewing the junior model in the line, as indicated by the letter A, and it is the cheaper version without the Pro prefix.

Expectations from ordinary consumers and independent tests about this model were different, but for the most part, the smartphone still pleasantly surprised almost everyone. Already by the properties of the screen, it is clear that the matrix here is far from the most budgetary. Of course, not OLED-type, but IPS, but with a decent margin of brightness. The resolution is low – 1560×720, but in this price segment this is the de facto standard. The dimensions and weight of the smartphone are 73.5×156.28×8.22 mm and 150 g respectively. The screen size is 6.09 inches diagonally.

We say HONOR, we mean Huawei, and knowing the company’s success in terms of smartphone cameras, certain expectations are also present in relation to this super-budget. The camera here is the only one at 13 megapixels with f / 1.8 aperture. It may seem that such a complete set is poor, but in fact the manufacturer acted as honestly as possible. The fact is that in budget smartphones, the presence of two and, moreover, three cameras in the rear unit is often a purely marketing ploy, and in any case, only one of them “decides”. Here, although the camera is the only one, the quality of shooting is at its best – sharpness, detail, color reproduction, everything is in perfect order. Certain noises already occur with a lack of lighting, but in this context this is normal. Front camera – 8 megapixels.

The single-chip microprocessor system here is MediaTek MT6765 (Helio P35) on an ARM Cortex-A53 processor with eight cores. This is a fairly new solution, specially designed for low-cost gadgets. And everything would be fine if it were not for the slow RAM in a volume limited to two gigabytes. It is she who is the reason that when working in an environment of resource-intensive applications, a smartphone can lag. Built-in memory, as expected, is only 32 GB, but a dedicated slot for external cards recognizes large amounts up to 512 GB.

Of the undoubted advantages of this model, it is worth emphasizing the loud speaker, the presence of a rather nimble and well-thinking fingerprint scanner, the A2DP profile, and voice control. The battery in this model of the most common capacity is 3020 mAh, but the system is highly optimized: the smartphone works up to 11 hours in video viewing mode, up to 8 hours of intensive work in the Internet browser and up to 5 hours of playing those toys that the gadget is able to pull . Charging via micro-USB. Special thanks to the developers for the NFC module.

Advantages

  • decent quality of materials and assembly;

  • high-quality IPS-matrix with a large margin of brightness;

  • one of the best cameras in the super-budget smartphone segment;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • NFC module;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • compatible with large memory cards up to 512 GB;

  • good autonomy with an “average” battery.

Flaws

  • lags occur due to slow RAM.

The best inexpensive smartphones under 9000 rubles

Now let’s slightly raise the bar of the price “psychological barrier” and consider the best smartphones on the market at the end of 2020 at a price of 8 to 9 thousand rubles. The difference can sometimes be quite small, and you should not expect any cardinal changes. But in places, noticeable improvements can be important for each individual consumer – more memory, the presence of one or another additional function, etc.

Realme C3 3/64GB

Rating: 4.5

Realme C3 3/64GB

First, let’s pay attention to the smartphone brand Realme. If anyone has doubts about the manufacturer, we hasten to reassure everyone – Realme is nothing more than a naming, and behind it is the Chinese giant BBK, which owns the more than well-known OPPO trademark. The Realme direction was even conceived as a budget alternative to the OPPO brand, which has always focused on expensive “stuffed” smartphones of a level close to the flagship.

As part of the development of this model, the manufacturer did not try to create something outwardly similar to expensive modern flagships with their solid glass. Therefore, the case here is plastic, but high-quality and very practical – it does not slip, thanks to the successful surface texture, it does not collect fingerprints. The dimensions of the smartphone are 164 × 75 × 9 mm, the weight is relatively decent – 195 g, but in the context of a budget model, this is often even more plus than minus.

The screen size is 6.5 inches diagonally, the screen resolution, as in super state employees, is low – 1600 × 720, it is fixed and cannot be changed. IPS matrix. The screen has frames, and they are relatively wide – 3 mm on the sides, 4.5 mm on the top, and a rather large “chin” of 8 mm on the bottom. The dot density is 270 per inch. A screen without an air gap – One Glass Solution – that is, there is practically no ghosting here. This is good in terms of visual characteristics of the image, but greatly reduces maintainability. The brightness in manual mode reaches 530 cd / m², which is quite tolerable, but in automatic mode the values are much higher, and a sunny day practically does not interfere with this screen.

The rear camera unit here is triple, but only the main camera with a resolution of 12 MP and aperture of 1 / 2.8 has real practical meaning. The other two are two-megapixel modules, one is a depth sensor, the other is a macro lens. And if the depth sensor can still be justified somehow, then the macro is completely useless here. The main camera copes with close-up shooting almost better, and the additional macro module in any case costs money and adds value to the smartphone. The quality of the pictures is very mediocre, there is no stabilization, as well as a night mode. At the same time, it turned out to be unexpectedly good shooting on a selfie camera. Intelligent algorithms have already tried here.

The electronics in this model is controlled by a Mediatek Helio G70 single-chip system with an 8-core central processor. The RAM is 3 GB, and although this is only 1 GB more than the most inexpensive solutions in the review, it adds performance significantly. Built-in data storage – 64 GB.

Finally, what really stands out about this model is the battery. As much as 5000 mAh is a serious advantage for a state employee.

Advantages

  • quality matrix;

  • a large margin of screen brightness;

  • 3 GB of RAM;

  • large battery capacity – 5000 mAh;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • a good front camera due to the well-coordinated and “smart” work of the algorithms.

Flaws

  • mediocre quality of shooting on the main camera.

Xiaomi Redmi 7 3/32GB

Rating: 4.6

Xiaomi Redmi 7 3/32GB

The next smartphone in our review is a representative of the extensive budget Redmi 7 series, and we immediately notice that this is a full-fledged seven, without the A index, which means additional compromises for the lowest price. In 2020, these two models cost almost the same, and the difference is no doubt in favor of the full-fledged Redmi 7.

The body of the smartphone is completely plastic, but it looks “expensive” due to the high-quality imitation of tempered glass in the body materials. But this imitation is only external, and in the hands it feels appropriate. Again, the assembly is of high quality, there are no fundamental complaints. The smartphone differs from the “glass” flagships tactilely – it slips less, more grippy.

The body dimensions of the device are 75.58×158.73×8.47 mm, weight – 180 g. The screen is large – 6.26 inches, and the resolution, quite expectedly, is modest – 1520×720. An IPS matrix with a good margin of brightness, but in bright sunlight it noticeably “blinds”.

As for the performance of this model, I must say that 3 GB of RAM still do their job, and the smartphone works noticeably “faster” than the closest analogues with 2 GB. The processor is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632, the expected minimum amount of internal memory is 32 GB, plus a dedicated slot for large memory cards – up to 512 GB.

The rear camera block in this model, which is not bad for such a price, consists of two modules – 12 and 2 megapixels, respectively. The second camera is a macro camera, and experts have doubts about the advisability of using it in this particular format and specifically for this model. The front camera is not bad, with a resolution of 8 megapixels.

It is worth praising the autonomy of Xiaomi Redmi 7 – a non-removable battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh provides the smartphone with a guaranteed day of work under quite serious loads and several days without recharging in moderate mode.

This model was announced in March last 2019, but it still remains relevant, collecting positive reviews on the trading floors. In general, in terms of the cumulative combination of characteristics, the smartphone is quite consistent with the entire concept of a separate Redmi brand in the Xiaomi smartphone lines, and even in 2020 it makes sense to buy it.

Advantages

  • image quality;

  • 3 GB of RAM and generally good performance;

  • decent photo quality, including on the front camera;

  • a separate slot for large memory cards;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • operating time without recharging.

Flaws

  • the screen fades noticeably in the sun.

HUAWEI Y6p 3/64GB (NFC)

Rating: 4.7

HUAWEI Y6p 3/64GB (NFC)

Now, from though not old, but not at all new model Xiaomi Redmi 7, let’s move on to the new product of mid-2020 – HUAWEI Y6p. This smartphone already attracted close attention at the announcement, and at the very first tests in thematic communities, we had to admit that HUAWEI continues to pleasantly surprise.

The characteristics of the screen here are approximately the same as those of the models neighboring in the class. Those who counted on the AMOLED matrix were not too disappointed, as the manufacturer obviously did not give high expectations. Therefore, the screen here is IPS with a not too high resolution of 1600×720. With a diagonal of 6.3 inches and aspect ratio of 20:9, this gives a pixel density of 278 per inch – it doesn’t hurt the eyes much, but still, with such a large screen, people with good eyesight already notice the difference compared to FullHD.

Case dimensions – 74.06×159.07×9.04 mm, weight – 185 g. There is an impression that the case is thick, and there really is something in it, but everything becomes clear when we find out the battery potential – 5000 mAh – this is not so rare a phenomenon for expensive models, but for a state employee it is still a very nice bonus.

The performance of this model is average, but clearly higher than that of the lower price segment. Processor 8-core Mediatek Helio P22, 64 GB of internal memory and 3 GB of RAM. The memory card slot supports large microSD cards up to 512 GB.

The rear camera block is triple here, and knowing the success of HUAWEI in the field of shooting quality, users have certain expectations regarding this model. There is a 13-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel 2-megapixel wide-angle telephoto lens. The front camera is the only one with 8 megapixels. The quality of the pictures, according to various estimates, is decent, but there are some criticisms.

Separately, it is worth noting that the model, with all the affordability of the price, even received an NFC module, but, unfortunately, not all modifications. When buying, you need to pay attention that the NFC module is available only in models marked MED-LX9N, and it is not provided in MED-LX9.

Advantages

  • quality matrix;

  • triple rear camera unit;

  • the amount of RAM and built-in memory;

  • support for large memory cards up to 512 GB;

  • NFC module (only in MED-LX9N modifications);

  • 5000 mAh battery.

Flaws

  • no Google services;

  • wi-fi only 2.4 ghz.

Oppo A5s

Rating: 4.7

Oppo A5s

Next, consider the smartphone of another well-known Chinese brand. At the very beginning of the review, we considered the cheapest model, and now we will “jump” through several generations at once to the more or less progressive OPPO A5s model.

Recently, more and more budget models of smartphones are being produced with some characteristics that were previously characteristic only of flagships. These are, for example, such “chips” as a fingerprint scanner, face unlock, a frameless screen, an NFC short-range communication module, and more. In various combinations, such advantages “leak” into new state employees, and OPPO A5s is no exception, except perhaps NFC.

On the other hand, one must understand that there are still limitations. So, for example, the matrix here has approximately the same resolution as all the models described in the selection – 1520×720 pixels, IPS. The screen size in diagonal is 6.2 inches. Dimensions – 75.4×155.9×8.2 mm, weight – 170 g. Case material – good plastic without any frills in terms of texture and colors, strict and monophonic. At the top of the rear panel is a fingerprint scanner, quite accurate and fast. The screen surface is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

A pair of rear cameras are placed horizontally, these are modules with resolution characteristics of 13 and 2 megapixels and apertures of F / 2.20 and F / 2.40, respectively. Main camera with autofocus. Front camera – 8 megapixel resolution.

Good performance for this class of electronics is provided by an 8-core MediaTek Helio P35 processor in combination with three gigabytes of RAM. There is not much internal memory – 32 GB, but in addition to it there is a dedicated slot for reading memory cards. The maximum capacity of the card is 256 GB.

The battery in this model is not as capacious as that of the previous smartphone – 4230 mAh, but against the background of good general optimization, it provides long-term operation without recharging. Independent tests show the ability of a smartphone to work from one charge to two days with relatively serious loads. Full charging, however, is only “slow” – up to 3.5 hours and through the outdated Micro-USB connector familiar to state employees.

Advantages

  • quality materials;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • face unlock;

  • overall performance;

  • glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the screen;

  • autonomy.

Flaws

  • cons of a macro camera;

  • lack of volume in conversational mode (only for some users, subjectively).

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 4/64GB

Rating: 4.8

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 4/64GB

Another model from Xiaomi will complete the selection of the best inexpensive smartphones under 10 thousand rubles. This is the previous generation of the Redmi series, but with increased performance due to the higher amount of RAM and internal memory. In addition, this smartphone finally boasts a high resolution screen.

Since this is a 2017 announcement model, it does not yet have the visual advantages that so many smartphones received a little later. This refers to at least a frameless screen – there is a very “fat” strip on top, and the same “chin” at the bottom. But on the other hand, the resolution of the IPS matrix is 2160×1080 pixels, that is, real FullHD, even adjusted for proportions and dimensions (5.99 inches diagonally at a ratio of 18:9). The pixel density also already greatly exceeds the characteristics of the above models – 403 per inch, which is already quite comfortable for the eyes.

With cameras, the situation is very modest, but honest. There are no semi-fake and frankly fake modules here, but a simple classic – a rear leading camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels and an aperture of F / 2.20, and a front-facing 5 megapixel simplest one. With all the relative weakness of such characteristics of cameras, the quality of shooting practically does not cause any complaints from users.

In terms of performance in 2020, although this model is already losing to some comparable models, in direct comparison it turns out to be no worse, or even better – the same 4 GB of RAM, for example. The processor is also very worthy for the release time of the smartphone – the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 MSM8953. Built-in memory – 64 GB. In addition, you can install an external memory card up to 128 GB, but only it will be combined with the second SIM card slot.

The autonomy of the smartphone also demonstrates more than good – a battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh “pulls out” a very long work. For example, watching a video in HD quality with the airplane mode on lasts up to 10 hours. There is even a fast charging function, which is also a big plus, despite the fact that not all independent testers are satisfied with the results: in half an hour, the smartphone charges up to 37%, and in an hour – only up to 67%. It takes up to two hours to fully charge.

Advantages

  • metal case;

  • FullHD screen resolution;

  • capacious battery;

  • 4 GB of RAM;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • fast charging support.

Flaws

  • the memory card slot is combined with the second SIM card.

The best inexpensive smartphones around 10,000 rubles

The third and final selection in the review of the best inexpensive smartphones according to Expertology magazine includes models whose price varies around 10 thousand rubles – somewhere a little less, somewhere a little more expensive, depending on the point of sale. This group has already included such prominent names as Samsung Galaxy A20s and HUAWEI P40 lite. Of course, these are limited and cheaper versions of flagships, but all the same, they won great demand immediately after the release, and for quite objective reasons.

Xiaomi Redmi 8 3/32GB

Rating: 4.5

Xiaomi Redmi 8 3/32GB

Redmi will open the selection again, but only here we will also “jump” through several generations and present Xiaomi Redmi 8. It may seem surprisingly no better than the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus described above, but this is a misleading impression. The Redmi G8 was announced at the end of 2019, that is, quite recently, which means that the model has advantages in any case.

In terms of screen characteristics, the developers made a kind of rollback back to a more modest resolution – 1520×720, and even if this is considered a downgrade, then such a move is also not unreasonable. The fact is that the screen resolution of FullHD 1920×1080 with an IPS matrix is a serious help for the rapid discharge of the battery. In the same model, the company decided to close this issue from all sides – by reducing power consumption and installing an even more capacious battery.

Slightly improved camera configuration. The leading rear module is 12 megapixels with a resolution, the additional one is a 2 megapixel depth sensor. The rear blocks are placed vertically right above the fingerprint sensor in close proximity. This hints that at least the lower chamber will always be not too clean. But how much this really affects the quality of shooting is still a rather controversial issue. Front camera – 8 megapixel resolution.

As already mentioned, the battery of the smartphone has a high capacity. Here it is as much as 5000 mAh, which affected the thickness of the case. The overall dimensions are 75.41×156.48×9.4 mm, the weight is also notable – 188 g, but, on the other hand, it is far from being a record. The screen size is 6.22 inches diagonally. The pixel density, considering the resolution, is not too high, but it is quite natural and also expected – 270 dpi.

Now for performance. There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 single-chip microprocessor system on eight cores with an Adreno 505 graphics module. The RAM is 3 GB, the built-in memory is 32 GB. You can add capabilities to the data storage through memory cards – for this, a dedicated card reader is used, which “understands” large cards up to 512 GB.

And it deserves special mention with unconditional praise that the manufacturer in this model has already installed a normal progressive USB Type-C connector for connecting and charging, and this did not significantly affect the cost. Recall that in budget models, manufacturers install micro-USB in order to reduce costs, since USB Type-C is still not only a connector, but also a separate microcircuit, not the cheapest. In addition to everything, there is a fast charging function here, which with such a battery capacity is a very necessary thing.

Advantages

  • image quality;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • combination of price and features;

  • dedicated slot for memory cards;

  • connector for charging and connecting USB Type-C;

  • fast charging function;

  • high capacity battery.

Flaws

  • sometimes there are interruptions with the Internet.

HONOR 9A

Rating: 4.5

HONOR 9A

The review of the HONOR smartphone will continue, namely, the cheaper “nine” with the A index. But cheaper does not mean discounted, and this is a full-fledged smartphone with a serious baggage of advantages. Like all other gadgets from Huawei and sub-brands, HONOR does not support Google services, and this spoils the impression of some users. But the problem is solved by various “workarounds”, and many are ready for this for the sake of the advantages of this model.

This is a new model, announced in April of the current 2020 and went on sale a month later. This indirectly hints that the appearance of the smartphone is largely in line with modern standards – minimal screen frames, the maximum screen area occupied by the matrix, a small drop-shaped cutout for the front camera. The body dimensions are 74.06×159.07×9.04 mm, and the thickness hints at a capacious battery. And there is. The smartphone weighs 185 g.

The screen resolution here is “moderate” in every sense – 1600×720 with a diagonal of 6.3 inches. Given the proportions of 20:9, we get a pixel density of 278 per inch. The matrix here is of high quality – S-IPS, color reproduction is natural, as is the margin of brightness (as far as IPS technology allows).

The visual component in terms of functionality in this model is complemented by the fact that this is a solid camera phone. The rear unit consists of three modules: 13 megapixels with f/1.80 aperture; 5 megapixels with f/2.20 aperture and 2 megapixels with f/2.40 lens. Front camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels.

The performance of the device is determined by the Mediatek Helio P22 processor on eight cores and 3 GB of RAM. Built-in memory provides 64 GB, and there is also an independent card reader that reads cards up to 512 GB.

The battery capacity here is 5000 mAh. This is a large amount, even regardless of the means of saving the charge, and they are implemented here widely and deeply. So, the version of the Android 10 system itself is well optimized, and the absence of heavy and often unnecessary Google services that cannot be removed here only helps both performance and battery savings. Plus, there are even special power saving modes, and even a special “extreme” power saving mode in case of emergency. The connection and charging connector is micro-USB, and in this section of the review this can already be considered a disadvantage.

Advantages

  • high-quality S-IPS matrix;

  • NFC module;

  • separate slot for memory cards;

  • support for large memory cards;

  • capacious battery 5000 mAh;

  • “smart” battery saving, including the “extreme” saving mode.

Flaws

  • micro USB;

  • no google services.

Samsung Galaxy M11

Rating: 4.6

Samsung Galaxy M11

Now let’s pay attention to the rather sensational budget smartphone from Samsung announced in March 2020. Despite the fact that, as for any state employee of a South Korean company, an attempt was made to minimize the price by any means, some pleasant surprises can still be expected. This model, like the neighboring M12, has become a logical continuation of the well-known Galaxy M series, in which the main emphasis was placed on capacious batteries.

But let’s start all the same with the screen, and here at first glance you can’t say that it is somehow impressive. Indeed, the resolution of the matrix in this case, we have all the same “normal” HD – 1560×720, and with a screen size of 6.4 inches, the pixel density is even slightly less than that of most of the options described above – 268 per inch. But this is if we take only pure technical characteristics.

Other indicators of the matrix already indicate its high quality. With minimal flaws in the automatic brightness adjustment, depending on the lighting, the screen reaches sufficient brightness values u200bu200bto not lose visibility in intense daylight. The color gamut of the screen almost exactly covers the sRGB color space.

The Samsung Galaxy M11 has two full-fledged modules for photography, plus a depth sensor for blurring the background. The main module is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera and an f / 1.8 (27 mm) lens with PDAF autofocus, but without optical stabilization. The second camera is a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 lens. Depth sensor – 2 megapixels. Despite the fact that at first glance the camera block looks very serious, its detailing capabilities are very limited, and it simply does not pull evening and night shooting in decent quality. In general, cameras are not the strongest point of the model.

What definitely pleased me in this model was its autonomy. A battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh is already good, but there is also a fast charging function, and the manufacturer also did not stint on the USB Type-C connector. Of the established means of communication, in addition to all the standard ones, NFC definitely pleased.

As for performance, here it was decided to opt for the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 – a compromise solution with Adreno 506 graphics. In combination with 3 GB of RAM, it provides an acceptable speed without slowdowns. There is 32 GB of internal storage, but only a little over 20 GB is available. Fortunately, up to this volume, you can add a memory card with a capacity of up to 512 GB in a separate slot.

Advantages

  • high-quality IPS matrix;

  • almost complete coverage of the sRGB color space;

  • USB Type-C;

  • battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh;

  • fast charging;

  • NFC

  • dedicated card reader;

  • support for large memory cards up to 512 GB.

Flaws

  • picture quality is mediocre.

Xiaomi Redmi 9C 3/64GB (NFC)

Rating: 4.7

Xiaomi Redmi 9C 3/64GB (NFC)

We return to the famous Chinese brand Xiaomi again, and this time we are getting close to the latest models of low-cost smartphones from this brand. It has many advantages, but at the same time, it is far from the flagship characteristics, so the reader should still be warned against high expectations.

The first thing to be prepared for is the “economical” resolution of 1600×720 with a screen size of 6.53 inches diagonally. But for the most part, everyone is already used to this, since smartphones with FullHD resolution are rare in this price segment. Case dimensions and weight are 77.07×164.9×9 mm and 196 g respectively. The thickness and weight subtly hint that in this model, as well as in several previous ones, the emphasis is on a capacious (and therefore massive) battery. And there is.

As for the cameras, it’s worth saying right away that nothing particularly striking was done, otherwise the smartphone would inevitably “jump” beyond the comfortable psychological price barrier. The rear group here is arranged by a pair of a 13 Mpix main camera with an F/2.20 lens and a 2 Mpix F/2.40 depth sensor. There is, although not too fast, but autofocus, more or less well implemented macro mode on the main camera. The front camera is an ordinary 5 megapixel resolution.

This whole camera configuration, if we take the “clean” parameters and numbers in a more expensive model, would probably be capable of high quality shooting with versatile capabilities. But, again, such a window of opportunity would have a very tangible price. Therefore, in this case, we see a rather mediocre quality of shooting, which some users and reviewers note in critical remarks.

With performance, the situation is similar – everything is done to minimize the price, and at the same time, so that the smartphone does not make the table frankly uncomfortable in terms of speed. Therefore, a budget microprocessor module MediaTek Helio G35 is installed here on eight cores with PowerVR GE8320 graphics. RAM is also a minimum for this level of device – 3 GB. Built-in data storage of 64 GB, large memory cards are supported – up to 512 GB, the slot is independent.

As in the case of the previous several models, against the background of all the limitations, this smartphone has one serious “consolation” for the user – a capacious 5000 mAh battery. But, unlike the Galaxy M11, the connection connector here is no longer USB Type-C, but an outdated micro-USB.

Advantages

  • support for large memory cards;

  • independent card reader;

  • responsive fingerprint scanner;

  • face unlock;

  • capacious battery 5000 mAh.

Flaws

  • complaints about the absence of any notification indicators;

  • mediocre cameras.

Samsung Galaxy A20 32GB

Rating: 4.8

Samsung Galaxy A20 32GB

And again Samsung in our review, and now we will look at one of the most commercially successful representatives of the A-series of the Galaxy smartphone family. We’ll immediately make a small disclaimer why Expertology chose the A20 over the A20s, because for these lines, the prefix “s” has always meant an improved version. Here, everything happened exactly the opposite, and in the s-version of the Galaxy A20 series there are many changes, but almost exclusively in the direction of deterioration. The difference in price is minimal.

The reasons for this strange approach lie solely in market conditions. The manufacturer probably thought that the Galaxy A20 was too good, because at that time it had to compete with such heavyweights as Honor. In any case, a slightly older version of the Samsung Galaxy A20, announced in March last 2019, “does” the A20s, which was released six months later, in perhaps the most important parameters for the user, and the improvements are mostly symbolic.

Let’s move on to the specifics, and the striking difference between these two models is already manifested in the type of matrix. In the Galaxy A20, this is SuperAMOLED with all the advantages over IPS, like the A20s. The resolution, however, is “economical” – 1560×720, but against the backdrop of a progressive screen, this is already more of a standard than a noticeable drawback.

The configuration of the cameras and their properties are quite good. So, the rear unit consists of three modules: 13, 8 and 5 megapixels with different purposes for each of them, the main lens has autofocus. In normal daylight, the photo quality is not bad, even good, but indoors it already drops quite sharply. However, there is no need to expect special miracles here, I am glad that at least open spaces can be handled by this smartphone. The front selfie camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels turned out to be unexpectedly good. And the point here is not in megapixels, but in the fact that the camera gives good detail and even creates a bokeh effect.

If we consider the electronics of a smartphone, then it is not so much the main part (processor and memory) that is important in it, but communications. Samsung really decided to “get confused” with a good connection. So, there is a dual-band Wi-Fi module, fifth-generation Bluetooth, wide support for LTE standards and bands, and even NFC, for which special thanks.

In terms of autonomy, the manufacturer acted here in accordance with the market situation. Huge 5000 mAh batteries were not “fashionable” then, and this model has a 4000 mAh battery, which is also not bad. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone lasts up to 26 hours in communication mode, and up to 82 hours when listening to music. But these are obviously synthetic tests, and the real figures are lower. I am glad that the connection and charging via USB Type-C and the fast charging function is implemented.

Advantages

  • matrix SuperAMOLED;

  • good rear camera unit;

  • front camera with bokeh effect;

  • USB Type-C;

  • fast charging;

  • NFC

  • dual-band Wi-Fi;

  • Bluetooth 5.0;

  • balanced performance and cost.

Flaws

  • complaints about the behavior of the proximity sensor (often the reason is not in the sensor, but in the double-tap setting);

  • sometimes the automatic adjustment of the screen brightness is unstable.

HUAWEI P40 lite E NFC

Rating: 4.9

HUAWEI P40 lite E NFC

Completing the review of the best low-cost smartphones of 2020 according to Expertology magazine is another “Google-free” model manufactured by HUAWEI. Although there is a lite prefix here, the combination of P40 still has a magical effect on users who are familiar with the characteristics of the super-flagship HUAWEI P40 Pro. Everything here is “light”, in places with frank restrictions, and in other places on the contrary, the characteristics are pleasantly surprising.

Let’s start with the screen, and, most likely, we will not surprise anyone with a small resolution – 1560×720. The screen itself is large – 6.39 inches, so the corresponding pixel density is 269 per inch. The matrix is IPS, there are no miracles here either, and this is not because HUAWEI is “bad”, but because, as we have already said, with the Samsung Galaxy A20 described above, the South Korean company almost dumped in the struggle for the market. Case dimensions – 76.13×159.81×8.13 mm with a weight of 176 g.

After describing the characteristics of the screen, we will make a small disclaimer about the choice of this model. Despite the difference in the name only in the presence of the E index, it is very different from the HUAWEI P40 lite, unfortunately, not for the better. However, the cost of P40 lite is more than half as high, so if you need to meet exactly 10 thousand rubles (at the end of 2020), then you will have to choose E-shka.

Let’s move on, and now about the cameras. They are just almost identical to the older model, and, knowing the success of HUAWEI in the field of smartphone shooting, one can only rejoice. The main rear module is here with a resolution of 48 megapixels, wide-angle 8 megapixels and depth sensor – 2 megapixels. The front camera in this model is 8 megapixels.

Let’s go through performance. The processor module here is a HiSilicon Kirin 710F single-chip system with eight processing cores and a Mali-G51 MP4 graphics module. 4 GB of RAM, and this is already a noticeable advantage over neighboring 3 GB options. Built-in storage – 64 GB, plus a card reader with the ability to work with large cards up to 512 GB. By the way, the presence of a card reader is one of the few advantages of the E-shki over the older and more expensive model HUAWEI P40 lite.

The battery here is quite capacious – 4000 mAh, and this capacity is gradually becoming the standard for modern smartphones. In any case, consumer expectations are forcing the manufacturer to do so. Unfortunately, there is no fast charging and connection via a micro-USB connector.

Advantages

  • high-quality, bright matrix;

  • “juicy” shades, wide coverage of the color range;

  • not bad, as for an inexpensive model, cameras;

  • NFC

  • Bluetooth 5.0;

  • 4 GB of RAM;

  • fingerprint scanner;

  • HUAWEI Band 4 fitness bracelet as a gift (to be specified).

Flaws

  • no fast charging, micro-USB connection.
