More and more people are using their smartphones to take pictures. But sometimes its capabilities are not enough. At such moments, you want to get a full-fledged camera. At the same time, such a device should not be oversaturated with functions, and shooting with it should for the most part be carried out in automatic mode. In short, this should be a camera for beginners. It is these devices that will be discussed in this article. We will talk about both SLR and system cameras. Only compact models will be left behind, which, with similar functionality, will cost significantly more. Maybe we’ll talk about them next time.

The best DSLRs for beginner photographers

Nikon D5300

Rating: 4.9

Nikon D5300

One of the easiest SLR cameras to learn. In her favor, many beginners make their choice, before taking pictures only with a smartphone. The camera turned out to be relatively small, and its weight does not exceed 480 g (add to this the weight of the battery and lens). The cost of this model, together with the “whale” optics, is 37 thousand rubles. This price tag cannot be called minimal. He says that the manufacturer did not save on all components. Indeed, he managed to equip his creation with a rotary LCD display. Also among the undoubted advantages of the camera is a wireless Wi-Fi module, thanks to which pictures can be instantly sent to any smartphone. It is impossible not to note the wide possibilities in terms of video shooting. The camera writes a picture with Full HD resolution and a frequency of 60 frames / s. Moreover, there are stereo microphones. If their capabilities seem a little, then an external “label” can be connected to the corresponding connector.

Otherwise, this is a typical budget SLR camera, which will be quite enough in our rating. Shooting here is carried out using a matrix with a crop factor of 1.5. The sensor resolution reaches 24.2 megapixels – this parameter will suit absolutely all novice photographers. Focusing is assisted by phase detection autofocus. Framing is done through a reflex viewfinder with a 95 percent field of view. The camera also includes a lithium-ion battery, the capacity of which is enough for about 600 shots. In a word, this is a worthy device that helps to master the basic skills of photography without much difficulty.

Advantages

  • Small size and weight;
  • Built-in GPS;
  • Affordable price tag;
  • There is a wireless Wi-Fi module;
  • There is a microphone input;
  • Shooting video in Full HD with a high frame rate;
  • Sufficiently high resolution of the matrix;
  • The LCD display has a swivel mechanism;

Flaws

  • Not the fastest autofocus
  • Not very high resolution LCD;
  • Digital noise appears at high ISO values;
  • The viewfinder field of view is only 95%;

Canon EOS 80D

Rating: 4.8

Canon EOS 80D

Already a much more expensive camera. The Japanese manufacturer asks for at least 61 thousand rubles for it. Perhaps, such an amount will be unbearable for those who do not intend to make money with photography at all in the future. But if we talk specifically about novice photographers, then they should understand that sooner or later they will have to spend such an amount. I am glad that they ask for such money for a kit with a lens, albeit not the best.

Inside this camera is a traditional cropped matrix, the resolution of which reaches 24.2 megapixels. As much as possible here, shooting with ISO 25600 is possible. However, significantly lower values are workable. Compared to cheaper Canon EOS 80D cameras, it has an increased rate of fire – 7 photos can be created per second. The maximum burst can be 25 frames (when saving images in RAW). Another important feature of the device is the mirror viewfinder, which has a 100 percent field of view. The camera comes with a BG-E14 battery pack with enough power to take at least 960 shots. This is an impressive result, unattainable for most entry-level DSLRs.

As for video shooting, it is carried out here at a frequency of 60 frames / s and Full HD resolution. As in the previous considered version, there is also a microphone input here. But not only! You can also connect headphones to the product, which allows you to immediately evaluate the quality of the recorded sound. And the camera also has wireless Wi-Fi and NFC modules, with the help of which synchronization with a smartphone is instantly carried out. But there is no GPS here, which is somewhat disappointing. However, not all novice photographers need geotags in pictures.

Advantages

  • The LCD display is touch and has a rotary mechanism;
  • The kit includes a battery pack;
  • The shutter is capable of operating at a speed of 1/8000 s;
  • The camera is endowed with Wi-Fi and NFC modules;
  • There is an audio output and a microphone input;
  • Video is recorded in Full HD and at high frequency;
  • High shooting speed;
  • The viewfinder has a 100% field of view;
  • There is an auxiliary screen;

Flaws

  • High price;
  • A three-inch LCD is made up of only a million pixels;
  • Missing GPS;

Nikon D7200

Rating: 4.8

Nikon D7200

How much is a beginner photographer ready to allocate to buy a SLR camera? Polls show that the ceiling is about 50 thousand rubles. And that is exactly the kind of money they are asking for the Nikon D7200. We clarify that this price tag has a version without a lens. So get ready to spend some extra money if you haven’t used Nikon equipment before.

This camera works with a familiar CMOS sensor, which is one and a half times smaller than its full-frame counterparts. Its resolution is 24.2 megapixels, which is quite enough. Pleased with a well-implemented noise reduction system. It allows you to shoot even at very serious ISO values. In a word, in this regard, this model is surpassed only by already significantly more expensive and heavy DSLRs. The weight of this one, by the way, does not exceed 765 g. But, again, let’s not forget about the optics.

The processor built into the camera is powerful. In continuous shooting mode, it is ready to create up to seven images every second. It also allows you to shoot video in Full HD resolution at 60 frames / s. With its help, some modern functions are also implemented here, without which even a professional photographer is not ready to do. For example, the device can take HDR pictures. Well, the gyroscope will help not to fill up the horizon.

Sighting is proposed to be carried out using a mirror viewfinder with 100% frame coverage. The camera also received a 3.2-inch LCD display, the picture on which is built from 1.2 million pixels. Only the fact that this screen does not have a swivel mechanism will sadden someone. However, the problem is partly solved by the ability to transfer images to a smartphone, for which a Wi-Fi module is used here. All kinds of wired connections are available to the user – numerous connectors are hidden under the plugs. And the camera is endowed with a second screen, which displays the current shooting parameters.

The battery used by the Nikon D7200 has a capacity of 1900 mAh. If you do not turn on Live View too often, a full charge can last for about 1000 shots.

Advantages

  • High resolution matrix;

  • Built-in powerful flash;

  • Good burst speed;

  • There are many modern features (timelapse, HDR, etc.);

  • Built-in Wi-Fi module;

  • Excellent SLR viewfinder;

  • High resolution LCD display;

  • There is an auxiliary screen;

  • A large number of connectors;

  • Long battery life;

  • There is a “screwdriver”.

Flaws

  • The cost cannot be called low;

  • I would like to be able to shoot video in 4K resolution;

  • The LCD display does not have a swivel mechanism.

Pentax K-70

Rating: 4.8

Pentax K-70

The Japanese company Pentax has relied on SLR cameras with a waterproof body. Even such a relatively inexpensive device as the K-70 has it. This SLR is sold for 45 thousand rubles. It should be noted that for such money you can only buy a “carcass”. But this is not a problem, since the fleet of optics for Pentax SLR cameras is incredibly wide. A used lens can be bought for very little money, which is good news.

This model got into our rating not only thanks to the waterproof case. Buyers appreciated the 24-megapixel sensor used here with a crop factor of 1.5. In theory, you can use sensitivity up to ISO 102400 here. Of course, lower values are working, but even with them the frames are very good even at night. This is also facilitated by a longer shutter speed, which is provided by the built-in optical stabilizer – a wild rarity in SLR cameras. Nothing bad can be said about the autofocus system, consisting of 11 points, 9 of which are cross-points. The Japanese manufacturer did not save on the viewfinder, which has a field of view of 100%. But the LCD display does not cause a feeling of delight – it has too low a resolution. But on the other hand, it has a repetitive mechanism, which makes it easier to shoot from uncomfortable angles.

You can’t call it a fast-shooting camera. However, 6 frames / s is quite a worthy parameter. It’s just a shame that when saving pictures in RAW, the series will end after 10 photos. As for the shutter, it is maximally capable of working in 1/6000 s. The camera is also suitable for video shooting – the picture will be saved at a frequency of 60 frames / s and a resolution of 1080p. Sound is allowed to be recorded from an external microphone. Not forgotten by the manufacturer and Wi-Fi, which allows you to transfer pictures to a smartphone, as well as use it for remote control.

Advantages

  • The case is waterproof;
  • Built-in optical image stabilizer;
  • High resolution CMOS-matrix;
  • Excellent SLR viewfinder;
  • Speed exposure available;
  • There is a wireless Wi-Fi module;
  • There is a microphone input;
  • The screen has a swivel mechanism;
  • Not the highest cost;

Flaws

  • Low battery capacity;
  • The video quality is inferior to the result of cameras from Canon and Nikon;
  • Inconvenient ISO switching;

Canon EOS 200D

Rating: 4.8

Canon EOS 200D

Now it is the Canon EOS 200D that is the best choice for a novice photographer who is not going to spend too much money on a purchase. For a kit with a “whale” lens, they ask for no more than 40 thousand rubles. And you don’t need to be reminded that Canon optics are quite affordable?

The weight of this device is only 456 g. This alone hints that the camera was created for beginners who are not yet going to earn money with their hobby. This is also evidenced by the very small size, because of which there was no place on the case for the auxiliary screen. A professional would be confused by the speed of the camera – in burst mode, it produces only 5 photos per second.

But let’s move on to the positives. These include the built-in flash. She turned out very bright. The manufacturer claims that its range reaches 9 m. Also, nothing bad can be said about the matrix, with a crop factor of 1.6, which received a resolution of 24.2 megapixels. Yes, if you start shooting at ISO 12800, the sensor will start to shamelessly make noise. But this is a cheap matrix, nothing else was expected. And which of the novice photographers will use such an exorbitant value of ISO?

If you want to achieve continuous operation from a full charge, you should use a reflex viewfinder. However, you need to keep in mind that it only has 95 percent frame coverage. The camera also includes a full 3-inch LCD display. Usually, manufacturers of budget DSLRs save on this structural element. But not Canon! She made the screen touch, and even provided it with a rotary mechanism!

The camera has 49 focus points. Among its wireless modules are all the most useful – there is Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and even NFC. As for wired interfaces, the most important of them is the microphone input. It will come in handy when shooting video. Which is carried out with a resolution of Full HD and a frequency of 60 frames / s.

Advantages

  • There is a microphone input;

  • A full charge is enough for at least 650 shots;

  • A large number of wireless interfaces;

  • High resolution matrix;

  • A powerful flash is used;

  • Well-realized LCD display;

  • Modest size and weight;

  • Good video quality;

  • Not very high cost.

Flaws

  • Not the fastest burst speed;

  • An abundance of digital noise at high ISO values.

Nikon D3500

Rating: 4.7

Nikon D3500

An excellent SLR camera that fully fulfills the money invested in it. Quite, I must say, small – in Russia they ask for 33 thousand rubles for this model, and sometimes even less. A penny compared to much more advanced DSLRs, which even experienced photographers do not disdain.

Of course, this camera is cropped. This means that its matrix is exactly 1.5 times smaller than the usual film frame. But this disadvantage becomes noticeable only with professional use of the device. And mostly when increasing the ISO to a very high value. As for the resolution of the CMOS sensor installed here, it is 24.2 megapixels, and this should suit most buyers.

The “whale” version of the camera comes with a lens. We advise you to replace it with better optics after some time, because only in this case you can squeeze all the juice out of the camera. You can also purchase an external flash, as the built-in flash is often not enough power. To build a frame, either a reflex viewfinder with a 95 percent field of view or a 3-inch LCD display consisting of 921 thousand pixels is used here. In the second case, there will be an increased energy consumption – a full battery charge is definitely not enough for the declared 1550 photos. Still upsetting is the lack of a swivel mechanism that would make it easier to shoot from some uncomfortable angles.

Now even such inexpensive SLR cameras can boast of supporting modern technologies. The Nikon D3500 has a built-in Bluetooth module, thanks to which remote control from a smartphone is implemented. Also, the camera boasts accurate exposure metering, due to which it almost never misses the brightness of the picture. And only the focusing system raises serious questions – it consists of only 11 points.

Advantages

  • Available shooting in Full HD resolution (50 fps);

  • High resolution matrix;

  • There is Bluetooth;

  • Long battery life;

  • Adequate cost;

  • Modest size and weight.

Flaws

  • There is no Wi-Fi;

  • Not a very large number of focus points;

  • The display does not have a swivel mechanism;

  • There are no exposure bracketing and other similar functions.

Canon EOS 800D

Rating: 4.6

Canon EOS 800D

Many novice photographers will find this camera too expensive. But if you still dare to spend the requested amount on it, then you definitely will not be disappointed in the purchase. Moreover, the camera will suit you for many years, which cannot be said about more budget options. Unless you are going to actively use it for video shooting. Alas, here this mode is limited to Full HD resolution, which will soon look like an anachronism.

The device turned out to be relatively small and light, the scales under it will show 532 g. Inside it is used the usual CMOS matrix with a crop factor of 1.6. Its resolution has been increased to 24.2 megapixels. This allows you to get detailed photos that can be printed in any size you want. As for light sensitivity, values up to ISO 3200 are working. Higher ones are also available to the user, but when they are activated, the photo can get an abundance of digital noise.

In the dark, the built-in flash can help the photographer. It turned out to be extremely bright – the effect is noticeable even at 12 meters from the camera. But if you have an external flash, then it is better to use it by synchronizing it with the camera through the usual “shoe”.

The camera received a very powerful processor and a decent amount of memory. Due to this, a well-implemented burst mode is available to the user, in which 6 shots are created per second, saved in RAW format. And such a series can last up to 27 frames!

The construction of the composition is proposed to be carried out using an optical viewfinder with a 95 percent field of view. However, you can also take advantage of the Live View mode, using a 3-inch LCD display, consisting of 1 million pixels. But do not forget that this operation of the camera will consume much more battery power. As a result, it will dry out faster than after the 600 shots declared by the manufacturer. It should also be noted that the display can be rotated. And the fact that the screen is touch.

Modern technologies are noticeable when looking at the list of interfaces. It has almost everything a beginner photographer might need. From the mic input to reasonably fast Wi-Fi. And when shooting from a tripod, the remote control connector, which has recently disappeared from many other SLR cameras, can come in handy.

Advantages

  • Good video quality;

  • A huge number of wireless interfaces;

  • High resolution matrix;

  • There is a microphone input;

  • Built-in powerful flash;

  • Good speed in burst mode;

  • The LCD display is rotary and touch;

  • Good autofocus system.

Flaws

  • Battery life won’t suit everyone;

  • Very high cost;

  • It is better not to use high ISO values.

The best mirrorless cameras for beginner photographers

Canon EOS M50 Kit

Rating: 4.7

Canon EOS M50 Kit

The Japanese company Canon does not pay much attention to products intended for beginner photographers. However, such people will still find something interesting in its assortment. For example, they may like the Canon EOS M50. This is by no means the cheapest camera, but in some respects it seriously outperforms its competitors. For example, it has an LCD display with a side swivel mechanism. This makes it easier to shoot yourself when the device is placed on a tripod. Well, in normal photography, it is better to use an electronic viewfinder, consisting of 2.36 million pixels.

Inside the camera, there was a place for a standard CMOS matrix with a crop factor of 1.6. Its resolution has been increased to 24.1 megapixels. Alas, the sensor cannot be called a low-noise sensor, therefore it is not recommended to shoot at high ISO values. But if you are not going to take pictures at night without a flash, then you are unlikely to notice this drawback.

The camera received at its disposal a processor with a very high speed. In continuous shooting mode, the camera produces 10 shots every second! In this case, the buffer overflows only after three seconds, if the images are saved in JPEG format. Also, the capabilities of the processor are more than enough for the user to have access to 4K video shooting. But do not rely on a high frequency – in this mode it will be 30 frames / s. When the resolution is reduced to Full HD, it will increase to 60 fps. I am glad that during video shooting you can use an external microphone – the device received the appropriate connector.

If we talk about interfaces, it’s even surprising that such a small DSLR received so many of them. The only thing missing is a headphone jack. Pleases and a set of wireless modules. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will allow for remote control, as well as the transfer of finished material over the air. Well, NFC will significantly speed up synchronization.

Budget mirrorless cameras usually have very few focus points. 143 points are waiting for you here, most of them belong to the cross type! In a word, there will definitely be no problems with focusing, even if you use portrait optics with the widest possible aperture.

As befits a modern camera, Canon EOS M50 has all sorts of modern shooting modes. In particular, HDR is available here. The camera causes complaints only for low energy efficiency. A full charge of the battery used here is only enough for 235 photos.

Advantages

  • The camera cannot be called large and heavy;

  • The display is touch and rotary;

  • An excellent electronic viewfinder is used;

  • 4K video recording available;

  • There is a microphone input;

  • All useful wireless modules are built in;

  • Excellent autofocus system;

  • High speed burst shooting.

Flaws

  • Not very powerful built-in flash;

  • The price will not suit everyone;

  • Not very long battery life;

  • No aperture priority mode for video shooting;

  • Does not write the amount of free space on the memory card.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

Rating: 4.6

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

This is the third edition of the popular mirrorless camera, which has a 4/3 form factor matrix at its disposal. Such a sensor has a size of 17.3×13.0 mm, which is exactly half the size of a traditional film frame. At the same time, the manufacturer tried to squeeze everything possible out of the matrix without overcomplicating it. This structural element is made using Live MOS technology, and its resolution is 16.1 megapixels. If it were higher, it would inevitably increase the amount of digital noise. And with this resolution, you can even very seriously increase the value of light sensitivity, which is useful in the dark and windowless rooms.

This mirrorless camera boasts optical image stabilization. Here it works on the basis of matrix shift. Also, the manufacturer introduced a flash into his creation. However, its power is far from record-breaking, so you may need a “shoe”, through which synchronization with an external flash is performed.

The device includes an electronic shutter. It is ready to provide a shutter speed of 1/16000 s! You can appreciate this parameter at its true worth only when you buy high-aperture optics – you can’t call it “whale” even with all your desire. And the camera has a powerful processor. This is well felt in the continuous shooting mode, when the camera produces 8 images every second. When they are saved in RAW format, the buffer overflows only after 22 frames.

On the back of the camera there was a place for a 3-inch swivel display, which is touch-sensitive and consists of 2.36 million pixels of an electronic viewfinder. Correct focusing provides 121 focus points. Remote control using a smartphone provides a built-in Wi-Fi module. Well, a relatively small battery should successfully work out during the creation of 330 shots. Not the biggest number, but mirrorless cameras almost always require extra batteries.

Separately, it should be noted the possibility of video shooting in 4K resolution, albeit with a relatively low frame rate. However, the sound will have to be recorded on a separate device, especially if you want to achieve the perfect result.

Advantages

  • High burst shooting speed;

  • Can shoot at high ISOs

  • There is an optical image stabilizer;

  • The LCD display is touch and rotary;

  • A large number of additional shooting modes;

  • Good autofocus system;

  • Built-in Wi-Fi module;

  • 4K video recording available;

  • Not very big size and weight.

Flaws

  • No microphone input;

  • Not the largest matrix size;

  • Not very long battery life;

  • The battery cannot be charged via the USB connector;

  • Poorly implemented panoramic shooting mode;

  • The display only tilts down.

Sony Alpha ILCE-6000

Rating: 4.6

Sony Alpha ILCE-6000

Sony has been a big DSLR for a while, but a few years ago it completely switched to slightly more compact mirrorless cameras. The result is impressive. In many ratings, it is the products of this Japanese manufacturer that take first place. So we could not do without at least one such camera. Our choice fell on the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000. Yes, this is by no means the cheapest device. But it will provide you with a lot of impressions and a bunch of opportunities, so the purchase will definitely not disappoint.

Let’s start with the fact that for 50 thousand rubles you will receive a kit with two lenses. One of them has a very wide range of focal lengths. If you don’t need a serious optical zoom, then you can save some money, albeit a small one, by getting a device with a tiny lens with focal lengths of 16-50 mm and an aperture that starts at f / 3.5.

After passing through the optics, the light enters the CMOS matrix, which has a crop factor of 1.5. Its resolution is 24.3 megapixels, which is the optimal setting. The picture is processed by the processor extremely quickly. This allows you to do in burst mode up to 11 frames / s. As a result, the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 is an excellent choice for street and sports photography.

The camera has an electronic viewfinder and a relatively small flash. The first consists of 1.44 million pixels. Not such a big figure, it must be admitted. As for the flash, it is also not a champion – its range does not exceed 6 m. The camera also includes a 3-inch display. It also has an average resolution by modern standards. But it does have a swivel mechanism.

This camera is capable of shooting video, but only in Full HD resolution (the frequency will be 60 frames / s). You can control the process remotely – synchronization with a smartphone is carried out using the built-in Wi-Fi module. Alas, you will have to record high-quality sound on the same smartphone or voice recorder – this camera does not have a microphone input.

This is one of the lightest cameras in our selection, if you do not take into account compact models. Scales under the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 with the battery installed will show 460 g. But do not forget that you need to add the weight of the lens to this figure.

Advantages

  • High resolution matrix;

  • There is a built-in flash;

  • High burst shooting speed;

  • Good video quality;

  • Decently implemented autofocus system;

  • The LCD display is supplemented with a rotary mechanism;

  • Modest size and weight;

  • There is a Wi-Fi module;

  • There is a kit with two lenses.

Flaws

  • Not a very large number of controls;

  • Not the longest battery life

  • Low resolution electronic viewfinder;

  • An optical stabilizer would not interfere;

  • No microphone input;

  • Very high cost.

Fujifilm X-A5

Rating: 4.5

Fujifilm X-A5

Some mirrorless cameras have a retro look. For example, Fujifilm X-A5 evokes associations with old cameras. However, only at first glance. Then you realize that this is a modern device that is convenient to manage. In its upper part there is a “shoe” for an external flash, a shutter release button and two easily rotating wheels. The first is the mode selector, while the second is responsible for manual settings. The camera also has a third wheel, which you should look for on the back panel, right above the thumb pad. And the camera got its own retractable flash. But the range of its action does not exceed 4 m, so we do not recommend seriously counting on it.

Some mirrorless cameras get a very modest matrix. But the Fujifilm X-A5 is not the case. Here it has a crop factor of 1.5. The resolution of the sensor has been brought to quite decent and already standard 24.2 megapixels. You can shoot at fairly high ISO values, albeit not prohibitive.

Many photographers demand that the camera must have a viewfinder, at least in electronic form. If you are one of those people, then we hasten to disappoint you. The Fujifilm X-A5 includes only an LCD display, the diagonal of which does not exceed 3 inches. But on the other hand, the screen is touch-sensitive, which greatly simplifies camera settings.

This camera is ready to provide shutter speeds starting at 1/32000 s. Of course, in order to use it, you will need far from the lens that comes with the kit. And the camera boasts a well-implemented burst shooting mode, in which 6 frames are created per second. The only pity is that the buffer overflows already in the second second. As for autofocus, here it includes 91 points, which can be considered an excellent result, especially for such an inexpensive camera.

All popular connectors can be found on the body of the device under special plugs. And it’s not only USB and HDMI, but also a microphone input, which should come in handy when shooting video. Here, by the way, it is carried out in 4K resolution. Again, this is highly atypical for a camera with a not particularly high price tag. However, there is a catch here. If you select this option, you will find a frame rate of 15 frames / s. And only when the resolution is reduced to Full HD will you get adequate 60 frames / s.

It remains to be added that the camera received Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless modules. And if they are not activated in vain, then a charged battery should be enough to create 450 shots. For a mirrorless camera, this is almost a record result.

Advantages

  • Available in three color options;

  • The camera is small and light;

  • Good video quality;

  • Burst mode is well implemented;

  • A large number of controls;

  • The display is touch and rotary;

  • Decent battery life;

  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth;

  • There is a microphone input;

  • High resolution matrix.

Flaws

  • Not very powerful built-in flash;

  • Low frame rate in 4K video shooting;

  • No viewfinder;

  • Built-in weak flash;

  • Autofocus isn’t fast;

  • The microphone input is non-standard;

  • Not the best implementation of the firmware.

Best compact cameras for beginner photographers

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II

Rating: 4.8

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II

Come to think of it, our selection should include the most advanced compact camera from Canon. But that model costs prohibitively wild money, which a novice photographer will definitely not spend. As a result, we decided to stick with the Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II. This is also a very expensive camera, but its price tag still cannot be called prohibitive. When it was created, the Japanese saved, but not every user will be able to notice this.

The structure of the 319-gram device includes an inch CMOS-matrix. It is significantly smaller than the sensors built into cameras with interchangeable lenses. Therefore, the manufacturer did not increase the resolution higher than up to 20.1 megapixels, otherwise the pictures would be too noisy. There is a plus in such a matrix. The fact is that its size made it possible to equip the camera with a lens that offers a 4x optical zoom. At the minimum focal length, its aperture can open up to f / 1.8, which allows you to beautifully blur the background. Inside this design element is an optical image stabilizer, which allows you to make the shutter speed longer, as well as get rid of the judder effect when shooting video.

The camera has a built-in flash. It will not work to synchronize it with the external one, since there is no “shoe” here. As for the processor, its capabilities are enough to create eight photos every second. On the back of the camera, there was room for a 3-inch LCD touch screen, complete with a flip mechanism. The screen flips up, so you can easily film yourself on a tripod. And even if it leaned down, you could see the picture on your smartphone by sending it to it via Wi-Fi. The device also has an NFC chip, which significantly speeds up synchronization.

Alas, the Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II has a couple of serious flaws, which cannot be ignored. First, the camera did not receive a microphone input. Secondly, video shooting is limited to Full HD resolution, which will quickly cease to suit you, even if you now think otherwise. Thirdly, the work of the device is provided by a tiny battery, the full charge of which is enough to create only 265 photos.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100/TZ100

Rating: 4.7

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100/TZ100

Do you want to get a compact camera that can shoot video in 4K resolution? At the same time, do you require a solid optical zoom from him? Well, your choice is very limited… The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100/TZ100 is almost the only option. This model offers 10x optical zoom. At the same time, its lens consists of light aspherical lenses. You can only find fault with the aperture, which at the minimum focal length opens only up to f / 2.8. This will not allow you to enjoy beautiful bokeh.

Inside the camera is an inch CMOS-matrix. Its resolution has been increased to 20.1 megapixels. You can shoot at very high, but not exorbitant values of photosensitivity. In theory, ISO 25600 can also be used, but the abundance of digital noise in this case will definitely scare you.

The processor installed here processes images almost at lightning speed. As a result, burst mode will provide you with ten shots every second! Importantly, at the time of photo and video shooting, an optical stabilizer located in the lens can work. Well, the framing here is carried out using an electronic viewfinder or a 3-inch touch screen display, consisting of 1 million pixels. There is no folding mechanism – this is the fate of an even more expensive model that is not included in our rating.

The camera received a very large number of controls, which allows you to adjust the shutter speed, aperture and other important parameters without any problems. You can also quickly switch to video mode. It is here carried out in 4K resolution, albeit at a frequency of only 30 frames / s. It remains to be regretted that there was no place for a microphone input on the case. Of the interfaces present here, only the Wi-Fi wireless module can be distinguished, thanks to which remote control is organized.

The weight of the device together with the battery is 312 g. The camera fits easily in a jacket pocket. A full charge is enough for him to create about three hundred pictures. By the way, the battery can be charged via a USB connector, using, for example, a power bank for this purpose.

Advantages

  • Modest size and weight;

  • 10x optical zoom available;

  • High resolution matrix;

  • There is an optical image stabilizer;

  • Good LCD resolution;

  • Decent autofocus system;

  • Built-in Wi-Fi module;

  • You can shoot videos in 4K resolution.

Flaws

  • Not very high resolution viewfinder;

  • The diaphragm does not open too wide;

  • The screen does not have a swivel mechanism;

  • No microphone input;

  • The viewfinder and display have different white balance;

  • Poor menu Russification;

  • Not the best auto metering.

Conclusion

It may seem to you that if you have a smartphone, all the devices considered in this rating do not make much sense. However, the owners of such cameras will not agree with you. Holidays, outdoor recreation, country trips – all these events are best captured with a full-fledged camera. So you will get better quality photographs, and you will want to print them, preserving memorable frames for almost ages (digital photographs are much easier to lose).
