Despite the popular belief that a TV should be “the bigger, the better”, there are still norms regarding the diagonals of TV screens that determine the optimal size, depending on the distance to the viewer. And the most common format was determined by the dimensions of the apartments in which the majority of Russians live. This format assumes a diagonal of 50 inches. It is to such TVs that the next review from the editors of Expertology magazine will be devoted. The rating of TVs is based on the analysis of technical characteristics on the website https://rankquality.com/

The best 50-inch TVs with FullHD resolution

In the first selection, we will consider the most inexpensive options for modern 50-inch TVs. The price in this case is largely determined by the type of matrix and resolution. Movie and TV standards have effectively forced consumers to buy TVs with at least FullHD 1920×1080 resolution. Therefore, the HD format, relatively recently the most popular, is no longer so easy to find on sale. Yes, and there is no need to look, because FullHD TVs are quite affordable, and the difference in image quality in HD FullHD is simply incomparable.

Blackton 5001B 50″ (2020)

Rating: 4.9

Blackton 5001B 50" (2020)

Let’s start with the cheapest option in the affordable 50-inch LCD TV category. The Blackton trademark may raise questions, but we hasten to reassure suspicious readers – the Blackton brand is owned by the Russian company Novaya Liniya, which also owns another well-known brand of inexpensive electronics, BQ. TVs are produced in Southeast Asia, in fact, at the same factories where electronics and more famous brands are assembled.

A significant part of the characteristics will be repeated from model to model. Therefore, those signs that will match 100% for all TVs in this selection, we will describe in detail only here, and in further descriptions we will pay more attention to the distinctive features, features and nuances that may affect the decision.

So, resolution will be common to all five models presented in the selection. Since different combinations of pixels in height and width fall under the definition of FullHD, we will immediately clarify that we are talking about the classic and most common format here – 1920×1080 pixels. The diagonal of the screen for all models is exactly 50 inches or 127 cm. Small assumptions are possible, but just that they are small.

The aspect ratio in all models will be “serial”, that is, 16:9. When viewing a full meter on such a screen, there will inevitably be black bars at the top and bottom. But you have to come to terms with this, since it is still Netflix, HBO and other streaming services that determine the format of home TVs, and not large film studios, which still remain cinemas.

All models support the reception of the most common format of digital terrestrial television DVB-T2. Variations like DVB-T and DVB-C are already model specific, as are add-ons like teletext.

Now about the features of this particular model. The screen refresh rate here is far from the highest – 50 Hz, but do not forget that we are talking about the cheapest TV in the selection. The backlight, on the other hand, is good – Direct LED, which means that the backlight LEDs are evenly distributed along the plane of the screen, and not just on the sides, as is done in Edge LED backlights.

The screen brightness is also minimally acceptable – 250 cd / m2. sq. The contrast ratio is 5000:1, and this is a very good indicator, as for an IPS-type matrix. Actually, the type of matrix determines the viewing angles. Here they are the maximum possible for this technology – 178 degrees. The pixel response time is 10 ms, here the TV cannot compete with gaming monitors, but it does not have such a task before it either. The scan is progressive.

The sound on the TV is not particularly outstanding, but not symbolic either – two speakers with a power of 8 W each are able to provide a fairly loud sound, but you should not expect deep bases from them. There is an automatic volume equalization function.

To connect signal sources are: AV input, component input, three HDMI ports and one USB. The output has one coaxial connector. There is Common Interface (CI) support for closed channel decoding, CI+ compatibility.

Additional functionality: sleep timer, TimeShift function, child protection. Through the USB port, you can connect an external drive and record broadcasts.

Advantages

  • high contrast;

  • comfortable viewing angles of almost 180 degrees;

  • Uniform Direct LED illumination;

  • automatic volume equalization;

  • writing programs to external media;

  • TimeShift;

  • sleep timer;

  • protection from access to children;

  • the most affordable price in the category.

Flaws

  • For such a price, the disadvantages are insignificant.

BQ 50S04B 50″ (2020)

Rating: 4.8

BQ 50S04B 50" (2020)

Another novelty of 2020, this time of the BQ trademark, which belongs to the same Russian company Novaya Liniya. Here, with a not too fundamental difference in price, we see a number of important differences in characteristics and functionality.

First, about the general points. The dimensions of the TV here and below will have minimal differences and, again, not fundamental. This model is 1122x648x81 mm without stand, 1122x710x258 mm with stand, weight is 9.6 kg. Wall mount included, kit included. Diagonal, matrix type and resolution are the same.

Matrix backlight – Direct LED with its main advantage – uniformity. The screen refresh rate is slightly higher than the previous model – 60 Hz. The difference is small, but still 60 Hz is a more natural frequency for vision, if we are talking about liquid crystal panels that have some inertia in terms of pixel glow. The brightness and contrast parameters are similar to the previous model – 250 cd/m. sq. and 5000:1, respectively. The pixel response is slightly faster, but not significant – 9.5 ms. The scan is also progressive.

And from this moment, the benefits begin, and serious ones. The least of these is greater support for television standards. So, in addition to the “mandatory” DVB-T2 and backward compatibility with DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S and DVB-S2 decoders are also flashed here, which, among other things, imply the decoding of encrypted channels through the CI / CI + module. There is a corresponding module, one slot for a decoding card is allocated.

And, perhaps, the most noticeable advantage of this TV over the one described above is a much wider set of interfaces, giving it a significant expansion of functionality. So, here we have two AV inputs, a component input, a VGA “computer” input; three HDMI ports; two USB interfaces; wired Ethernet network connection via standard RJ-45 socket; Wi-Fi wireless connection. There is a coaxial output. One HDMI port and one USB port are brought to the front panel. There is a standard headphone jack.

This model also has built-in support for Smart TV. For normal operation of the interface, its own RAM 1 GB and built-in 8 GB are provided. Transfers can be recorded “on the fly” to external media connected via USB.

The acoustics in this model are ordinary, almost exactly the same as the previous model: a stereo pair, 8 watts of power for each speaker. The sound characteristics are generally similar – a sound with a large margin of volume, but without any tangible potential at the bottom.

In addition to everything described, there are all the most popular service functions here – a sleep timer, a TimeShift function, a child lock, a convenient Russian-language menu with flexible settings.

Advantages

  • high contrast and natural black color;

  • Uniform Direct LED illumination;

  • support CI/CI+, one slot for decoding card;

  • network connection via Ethernet;

  • wireless connection via Wi-Fi;

  • HDMI and USB ports are brought to the front panel one by one;

  • built-in support for Smart TV;

  • recording broadcasts to an external drive;

  • useful additional service functions.

Flaws

  • not everyone is satisfied with the speed of the interface (menu).

Blackton 50S01B 50″ (2020)

Rating: 4.7

Blackton 50S01B 50" (2020)

Again, the Russian trademark Blackton, and at first glance, judging by the numbers of the nomenclature, it may seem that this is almost the same model as the first one on the list. But this is not the case, and the differences here are dramatic. This model is even more functional than the previous BQ at a more than affordable price.

In visual terms, this model does not lose anything and does not particularly benefit from the previous one. Still the same minimalistic design with thin bezels, a light stand and not too protruding backs. Panel dimensions – 1130x661x86 mm, with stand – 1130x723x257 mm, weight – 9.5 kg, connection power – 120 W.

The screen and matrix specifications are exactly the same as the previous two models, and this is not surprising, since we are dealing with the same manufacturer and with the same assembly lines. Therefore, we will not repeat ourselves. Let’s just say that some users in real reviews are somewhat critical of the quality of the “picture”, but there are very few such reviews and there is no specificity about what specifically does not suit them. The screen refresh rate here is slightly lower than the previous model – 50 Hz, but this is definitely not the reason. Independent tests show quite normal characteristics corresponding to the declared ones. In addition, the pixel response time is higher here – 6.5 ms, and this is already an indicator close to gaming monitors.

In terms of functionality, this model has many similarities with the previous one, which is good. So, here we have almost the same set of interfaces with minimal differences: one AV input; one component, input from a VGA video card; three HDMI ports (one on the front panel); the USB port is also brought out in front; Ethernet network card with standard RJ-45 connector; wireless radio module Wi-Fi; coaxial output.

Like the previous model, this TV has built-in support for Smart TV, and the operating system is the familiar and familiar Android version 9 AOSP. This is especially appreciated by users who easily install services such as Smotreshka TV, home media servers, set-top box emulators and many other compatible multimedia applications, including gaming applications such as Dendy (NES), Sega and Nintendo (SNES).

Advantages

  • Uniform Direct LED illumination;

  • fast pixel response time;

  • recording programs on a USB drive;

  • support CI/CI+, one slot for decoding card;

  • network connection via Ethernet;

  • wireless connection via Wi-Fi;

  • Smart TV based on Android with all the benefits;

  • convenient and fast menu;

  • useful service functions (sleep timer, child lock, TimeShift, etc.).

Flaws

  • there are infrequent comments from users on image quality, without specifics.

Hyundai H-LED50ES5001 50″ (2019)

Rating: 4.7

Hyundai H-LED50ES5001 50" (2019)

The TV will complete the selection, which, according to its “clean” technical characteristics, has no fundamental differences from the models described above, but attracts buyers with a trademark. Despite the obvious globalization and the fact that TVs of different brands can be assembled at the same factories in China or Taiwan, many still trust world-famous brands more.

To be precise, there are still differences at the basic levels. This can be seen (in every sense) in the characteristics of the image. Some users note the lack of a margin of brightness, and we, respecting the feedback, put this moment in shortcomings. Indeed, even according to the passport, the screen brightness of this model is somewhat lower than that of neighboring models – 220 cd / m2. sq. But we will immediately make a remark – not everyone and not everyone needs maximum brightness. A lot of users decently “twist” this setting, and not only to save their eyes, but also simply because it’s more comfortable.

Other characteristics of the screen are generally comparable to those proposed above. Same resolution, same contrast ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, 8ms pixel response time, progressive scan, 178-degree wide viewing angles. In terms of sound, this model was even pleasantly surprised. Although there are seemingly ordinary speakers of 8 W each, the sound is unexpectedly high quality, and this is noted not only by experts, but also by ordinary users. Not the last role here is played by the built-in Dolby Digital decoder. For this TV plus in the “karma”.

Another obvious advantage of this model is the built-in Smart TV system based on Android OS. A familiar interface, wide compatibility, fast menu response – all this allows the user to quickly navigate, install the necessary applications and unleash the potential of the TV to the fullest.

In terms of receiving terrestrial and cable television, this model also has all the options for interacting with service providers – DVB-T / T2 terrestrial standards and cable DVB-C are supported, plus satellite DVB-S / S2 with the ability to view encrypted private channels – there is a slot for decoding card. There is also a teletext function. Transfers can be recorded on external media – flash drives, hard drives.

Here, as in all the described models, there are useful service functions: TimeShift function with pause and rewind; protection of the interface from children; sleep timer; all kinds of settings.

Advantages

  • credible brand;

  • unexpectedly good sound;

  • built-in Dolby Digital decoder;

  • Smart TV based on Android;

  • broad compatibility with terrestrial, cable and satellite standards;

  • connection to a local wired Ethernet network;

  • wireless Wi-Fi connection;

  • recording programs to external media via USB;

  • a set of service functions – sleep timer, child protection, TimeShift, etc.

Flaws

  • lack of a margin of brightness (subjectively);

  • slow interface.

The best 50-inch 4K TVs

Now let’s move on to a larger and much more interesting selection, in which we will look at TVs with exactly the same 50-inch diagonal, but with a top-end resolution – 3840×2160, or, as it is abbreviated, 4K. More recently, there was very little content in this resolution, and monitors and TVs, and the electronics themselves, were not too adapted to reproduce such transcendent quality.

But progress is moving fast, and gradually 4K is becoming not a curiosity “for the rich”, but quite an affordable phenomenon. There are still not so many on-air programs in this quality, but there are plenty of video content, including on YouTube. This is by far the most promising format. Despite the fact that 8K already exists, many experts and users consider it to be “bust” and a clear overkill. This opinion is not unfounded, as it will be further, time will tell, but it is 4K that is beginning to experience truly stellar time.

Philips 50PUS6704 50″ (2019)

Rating: 4.9

Philips 50PUS6704 50" (2019)

And we will start with the most inexpensive model, which, although half as expensive as any of the previous group, still looks quite affordable at a price. There will be some deliberate simplifications here to minimize the price, but even with these simplifications, the functionality of the TV looks richer than any budget model considered.

Let’s start, as in the description of the first model in the first selection, with general points that will be the same for all TVs presented in this group. The first unifying moment is the diagonal of the screen. Everything is obvious here – strictly 50 inches or 127 cm. The matrix technology is IPS-like with possible assumptions on the refresh rate, brightness and contrast characteristics, but in any case with a prerequisite for comfortable viewing angles of 178 degrees. All models can be mounted on the wall, and each of them comes with a VESA standard mounting kit, which can differ only in dimensions, which rarely have fundamental practical significance.

Now we are moving along the characteristics, where at least some differences between the models can already be observed. This model has wide support for extended dynamic range in terms of displaying shades – HDR10, HDR10 +, Dolby Vision. All three of these standards are essentially the same, but demonstrate the consistent development of wide dynamic range technology in video. Dolby Vision is by far the highest level, but the TV is also backwards compatible.

To illuminate the matrix, a conventional circuit with white LEDs on the sides of the screen is used. The screen refresh rate is the lowest acceptable – 50 Hz. The scan is progressive. To watch movies shot at 24 frames per second, there is a corresponding 24p True Cinema mode.

The basic functions of the TV provide support for popular digital television standards: terrestrial DVB-T / T2, cable DVB-C, satellite DVB-S / S2 with decoding closed channels using a card. Further functionality is revealed by the already built-in SmartTV system based on the SAPHI operating shell. It is generally not bad, but in this model it works, unfortunately, slowly. This is noted by both independent testers and ordinary users. Even with an eye to some of the most affordable 4K TV prices, the slow SmartTV interface is still a palpable inconvenience.

You can further expand the capabilities of the TV by connecting peripherals. For this, the following interfaces are used: AV input; three HDMI inputs; one component; two USB ports; wireless connection Wi-Fi standard 802.11n; wired connection to the Ethernet network via RJ-45. There is support for Miracast. The TV can be connected to an ecosystem of other home and wearable electronics through the DLNA technology supported here.

In addition to functional advantages, this TV is also equipped with Ambilight decorative lighting. There is nothing revolutionary in this backlight with changing colors, but it was Philips who guessed to patent this development.

Advantages

  • image quality with sufficient brightness, deep contrast and natural black;

  • extended dynamic range up to Dolby Vision support;

  • built-in Smart TV module;

  • a wide range of interfaces;

  • wireless connection via Wi-Fi;

  • wired connection to the Ethernet network;

  • Miracast support;

  • decorative lighting Ambilight.

Flaws

  • slow SmartTV shell interface.

LG 50UM7300 50″ (2019)

Rating: 4.8

LG 50UM7300 50" (2019)

Number two in our selection of the best 50-inch 4K TVs is a fairly prominent model from the LG brand. The TV is literally replete with additional useful functionality, and only the type of matrix – VA can cause some caution, but there is no reason for concern, rather the opposite.

Let’s immediately clarify this point with the matrix. Notebook users who haven’t had to buy a TV before might assume (especially given the viewing angles) that VA is just an improvement on TN. In fact, these are completely different things, and there is practically nothing in common between them.

Without going into details, so as not to bore the reader with technical details, let’s say that VA technology is even preferable for TVs, since it is able to provide true black color, it is possible to use Local Dimming (local dimming) and FRC (Frame Rate Control – fast blinking) with it. pixels to simulate a 10-bit matrix). The viewing angles will indeed be narrowed to a maximum of 160 degrees, but, you see, at such an angle it is already difficult to consciously look at something in principle. But for the sake of crystal honesty, we will write down this circumstance as a disadvantage.

Now to the point. We figured out the advantages of the VA matrix, and to the features of the image we will add the fact that there is full support for HDR10, including Pro. In this model, not only the quality of the image, but also the sound. The stereo pair itself is more powerful than the “average” one – speakers of 10 W each, but also supplemented by built-in decoders for Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel audio with automatic volume leveling.

In terms of viewing content, this model also has all conceivable possibilities. There is SmartTV based on the webOS system, all popular digital television standards are supported, and even NICAM stereo sound. Teletext is recognized.

An extended set of interfaces is used to view content from local offline sources: AV input; three HDMI ports (moreover, this is HDMI version 2.0); two USB ports; network card with RJ-45 interface; Bluetooth wireless modules and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac; WiDi and Miracast technologies are supported. The device is adapted to work in the ecosystem of “smart home” devices. The package includes a high-tech remote control Magic Remote. Additional features – 360VR virtual reality function; True Motion 100 Hz technology; 2K HFR; Picture Mastering Index 1600 Hz.

Advantages

  • high-quality image, color reproduction;

  • Uniform Direct LED illumination with local dimming;

  • HDR10 support;

  • high-quality sound with Dolby Digital and DTS decoders;

  • True Motion 100Hz;

  • SmartTV;

  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi;

  • HDMI 2.0;

  • wired Ethernet connection;

  • remote control Magic Remote;

  • adaptation to work in the “smart home” system.

Flaws

  • viewing angles are smaller than those of IPS matrices.

Samsung UE50TU8000U 50″ (2020)

Rating: 4.7

Samsung UE50TU8000U 50" (2020)

Next, consider an interesting example of a 4K TV with a diagonal of 50 inches from Samsung. This model is significantly more expensive than the previous options, but it also has some important advantages, plus the well-known South Korean brand is justified.

The first thing that users and independent experts pay attention to is image quality. The matrix technology here, it would seem, is the same as that of other popular models, but it is clearly made of better quality using more expensive materials and a more thorough technical process. There is support for high dynamic range HDR10+. In addition, the screen refresh rate is twice as high as that of the above model – 100 Hz, and this is also of great importance for the smoothness (dynamic scene index – 2100) of the moving picture and naturalness. The sound is also made at a decent level – a stereo pair of speakers with a power of 10 W each with support for Dolby Digital multi-channel sound and automatic volume leveling.

The SmartTV system in this model is based on the Tizen shell. Full support for all popular TV standards. To view content from offline sources are the following interfaces: three HDMI inputs; two USB ports; wired network card with RJ-45 socket; AV input; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac wireless modules. One HDMI port and one USB port are brought to the front panel. Miracast supported. The CI+ card slot is used to decode closed channels.

A separate mention and inclusion in the benefits is the fact that this TV has a powerful Crystal 4K processor. In such systems, the processor matters not so much for the operation of SmartTV, but for providing a high-quality image with an expressive “picture”. In modern TVs, a particularly significant share of the work of software algorithms for the same local dimming, 10-bit matrix simulation, extended dynamic range, etc.

Additional features that enhance the TV’s capabilities: Airplay, DLNA for connecting other home electronics to share content, 24p True Cinema for watching movies at an “authentic” frame rate; light sensor; voice control; ambient mode.

There are practically no fundamental complaints from users about this model, the only point is that incorrect and unstable operation of applications and the same SmartTV may appear. This is due to firmware errors. This problem is “treated” simply – by updating the firmware, but this must be done not automatically, but manually – through a USB flash drive, after downloading the update from the official website of the manufacturer.

Advantages

  • credible brand;

  • powerful Crystal 4K processor;

  • image quality;

  • HDR10+ support;

  • screen refresh rate 100 Hz;

  • convenient intuitive menu;

  • Dolby Digital sound;

  • voice control;

  • Miracast support;

  • wireless connection Bluetooth and Wi-Fi;

Flaws

  • there are problems with the firmware, you should update via a USB flash drive by downloading the update package from the official website.

Philips 50PUS7303 50″ (2018)

Rating: 4.7

Philips 50PUS7303 50" (2018)

Another Philips 4K TV will continue the selection, and it will no longer be a novelty, and not even last year’s model, but a 2018 release. The fact that in these two years the novelties of this model have not been forced out of the market speaks volumes. Indeed, there are moments here that determine the choice of buyers so far. After all, in 2020 this model has already been reliably tested by time.

It must be said right away that here the developers managed to simultaneously realize a juicy image with natural black and good contrast, and high brightness, and, at the same time, the maximum possible viewing angles of 178 degrees, typical for IPS technology. That is, the matrix here is really expensive and of high quality, and the price at the time of release two years ago was much higher than the current one.

A few more words about the characteristics of the screen and image. The refresh rate here is low – 50 Hz, but that’s not the main thing. What is important here is a really increased margin of brightness – 350 cd / m2. sq., and for many this is of great importance, for example, for bright rooms overlooking the sunny side. Excellent contrast and black color provides local dimming Local Dimming. The Picture Performance Index is 1600 Hz. A decent sound is provided by a stereo pair of two speakers with a power of 10 W each, there is a built-in multi-stream audio decoder in two standards – Dolby Digital and DTS.

Smart TV in this TV is based on Android TV 8. All other current standards regarding terrestrial, cable and satellite television are also built-in, including CI + support – there is a slot for channel decoding cards.

To connect content sources and other peripherals, this model provides the following interfaces: component input, HDMI interfaces – 4 pieces, MHL input (an interface that combines the characteristics of HDMI and MicroUSB), two USB sockets, an RJ-45 network card output, a wireless receiver / transmission between Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi 802.11n radio module, optical output. Note – HDMI here is version 2.0 with high bandwidth. It should be noted that for some unknown reason, the developers in this model provided for a “slow” network card with a bandwidth of 100 Mbps. For video content in 4K quality, this is often simply not enough.

Among other things, this TV has a set of built-in auxiliary and service functions that expand its capabilities: 24p True Cinema for watching movies at a cinematic frequency, DLNA for data exchange between home gadgets, on-the-fly recording of TV programs to an external USB drive, TimeShift, sleep timer, child lock, light sensor. As in the first model in the selection, there is a branded Ambilight backlight.

Advantages

  • the model is time-tested;

  • image quality;

  • maximum possible viewing angles;

  • increased margin of brightness;

  • good surround sound, support for Dolby Digital and DTS standards;

  • HDMI 2.0;

  • wireless connection Bluetooth and Wi-Fi;

  • Smart TV on Android;

  • local dimming Local Dimming;

  • decorative lighting Ambilight.

Flaws

  • slow wired network card 100 Mbps.

Xiaomi Redmi Smart TV X50 50″

Rating: 4.6

Xiaomi Redmi Smart TV X50 50"

The Chinese company Xiaomi never ceases to amaze with its success in conquering the global electronics market. This is manifested in almost all niches, including smart home systems. Such a wide entry could not fail to attract the attention of Expertology specialists in the context of our today’s topic, and we invite you to familiarize yourself with the Xiaomi Redmi Smart TV X50 4K TV. This is another new product for 2020.

Let’s start right away with the most important – the quality and features of the image. A VA-matrix is installed here, the advantages and disadvantages of which we talked about above. Actually, it has only one drawback compared to IPS – a narrowed field of comfortable viewing, but this is only a technical indicator that rarely matters in practice. Not only that, Xiaomi engineers have brought the technology almost to perfection, still providing the maximum viewing angles of 178 degrees. This is more of a marketing goal, since no one will watch TV from this angle, but still it says a lot about the developers’ approaches.

As for the image, here we have an increased margin of brightness – 350 cd / m2. sq. and twice the contrast ratio of typical IPS matrices – 2000:1. The scan is progressive. The backlight also pleases – Direct LED with all the possibilities in terms of local dimming, but here the matrix itself literally requires such a solution, and it would be strange if the designers would have acted differently. The screen refresh rate is 60 Hz. Not a record, but against the background of all the advantages it is quite acceptable.

The quality and features of the sound here should be given special attention, as the developers themselves did. This model has not two, but four speakers. And this is by no means a translation of quality into quantity – the power of each of them is 12.5 W, and the total power of the stereo system is 50 W. Obviously, in terms of quality and volume of sound, this model will give a serious head start to any of the above.

Smart TV here is organized on the basis of Android TV, and to be precise, the operating shell is Mijia (PatchWall 2.0 UI). It also supports all popular television standards, terrestrial and cable.

To connect devices, interfaces are provided in this kit: three high-bandwidth HDMI 2.0 ports, two USB ports, one AV input, a wired Ethernet network card, standard Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless modules.

The productive work of image processing software algorithms and SmartTV operating system is provided by a powerful processor, two gigabytes of RAM. There is also 32 GB of internal memory. The TV integrates naturally into Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem.

Advantages

  • image quality and color reproduction;

  • natural black color;

  • increased margin of brightness and high contrast;

  • Direct LED backlight with local dimming;

  • surround sound from four speakers;

  • Dolby Digital, DTS decoders;

  • Smart TV with Mijia operating system (PatchWall 2.0 UI);

  • simple and natural integration into the Xiaomi smart home system.

Flaws

  • no fundamental flaws were noted.

QLED Samsung QE50Q60TAU 50″ (2020)

Rating: 4.5

QLED Samsung QE50Q60TAU 50" (2020)

And another model from Samsung will complete the selection of the best 4K TVs with a diagonal of 50 inches according to Expertology magazine. It is good in many ways, and especially the advertised letter combination QLED can attract the consumer. We’ll warn you right away that this has nothing to do with OLED technology, and there are simply no 50-inch TVs with OLED screens on the Russian market in 2020. Screens on organic light-emitting diodes are available in models with large diagonals.

The designation QLED is only spelling similar to OLED, and this was definitely some kind of marketing trick. But the difference between them is cardinal. OLED uses organic light-emitting diodes, and backlighting is not needed in such matrices, since in fact each pixel is its own backlight. As for QLED, behind the beautiful marketing name “quantum dots” lies a rather elegant technology, but has nothing to do with organic light-emitting diodes. If you omit complex technical details, then in QLED matrices it is possible to achieve many times higher maximum brightness and contrast, while the black depth will still not be a reference, but like most other high-quality LCD screens.

Now for the rest of the features. With such a powerful technological foundation, support for extended dynamic range is even more pronounced here in every sense. Complements the impression of a high refresh rate of the screen – 100 Hz. Dual LED technology provides maximum brightness. Deep blacks (as far as possible) are obtained through the use of local dimming of the increased efficiency of Supreme UHD Dimming.

But the sound here is the most ordinary – a stereo pair with a power of 10 watts for each speaker. However, this is not a drawback, most manufacturers in this category of TVs use this scheme. The built-in Dolby Digital decoder still significantly improves the sound.

The SmartTV system is built on the Tizen platform. All common digital television standards are also supported, including CI+ support. Teletext is recognized. The following interfaces are used to connect peripheral devices and signal sources: AV, HDMI x3, USB x2, Ethernet (RJ-45), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Miracast. Supports voice control.
